Folk Healing In The Tradition Of The Fidencista Movement, Katherine Brittain
Folk Healing In The Tradition Of The Fidencista Movement, Katherine Brittain
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
The Fidencista Movement is a religion in process . Like in many other medico-religions whose primary ministry is healing, women hold the highest positions of authority. The shamanic channeling of the spirit of the folk saint, Niño Fidencio , plies Fidencistas' belief in the spirit world and ameliorates physical and emotional healing. Fidencistas are concentrated in the Texas/Mexico borderland region where they are facing a passing of traditionalism, the social matrix in which folk healing thrives. However, the signature of the Movement, the penitential trek up the Vía de Dolores in Espinazo, is a cohering bi-annual ritual that fortifies devotion …

Facing Uncertainty, Proceeding With Caution, Living With Joy: Women With Multiple Sclerosis And The Motherhood Decision, Anne L. Van Acker
MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019
Multiple sclerosis is a degenerative neurological disorder, affecting approximately 250,000-350,000 persons in the United States. Women are diagnosed twice as frequently as men, with the majority of those diagnoses occurring during their childbearing (typically between the ages of 20 and 40) years. For women with multiple sclerosis, the decision to bear children is complicated by numerous factors. First, conventional cultural images of motherhood rarely acknowledge women with disability of any kind as "fit" mothers. For a disabled woman to pursue motherhood often means confronting predominant ideals and frequently having to justify her decision. Second, multiple sclerosis has proven to be …

Research has shown that both gender role conflict and negative attitudes toward females cause complications for the person with such perspectives. Relationships are an area that has been impacted by gender role conflict and attitudes toward females. Nursing Students' Experiences In Personal Spiritual Formation And In Provision Of Spiritual Care To Patients, Beverly Jane Cobb
Dissertations
Problem. Nursing professionals acknowledge that (a) spiritual care is part of holistic care, and (b) nursing education about spiritual care of patients is inadequate. Evidence points to the importance of personal faith and spirituality in order for the nurse to more effectively render spiritual care to patients. Enhancing knowledge about how nursing students learn spiritual care can benefit nursing education and, ultimately, patient care. This study explored how students with high faith maturity provided spiritual nursing care to patients.
Method. This study engaged phenomenological methods with a study population selected from two faith-based educational institutions. A total of 187 nursing …
