This second in a series of interviews with Dr. David Buzzard, first Director of Communications for the Wright State University School of Medicine, is divided into two parts. This fifth of six interviews with the founding Dean of the Wright State University School of Medicine, Dr. John Beljan, deals with two major areas. The first area is Faculty/Staff recruiting in which Dr. Beljan discusses the methods, priorities, and focuses of the recruiting efforts of the School of Medicine staff. Several key individuals are highlighted.

The second area deals with the development of the Residency Programs inherited and initiated by the Wright State University School of Medicine. Although each program is examined in turn, two distinctly different Residency Programs are highlighted, the Aerospace Medicine and Emergency Medicine Residency Programs.

Dr. Beljan also discusses the development of the Joint Coordinating Committees; the positions of Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs, Veteran's Affairs, and Air Force Affairs; the affiliation with the Veterans Administration and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; the role of the Greene and Montgomery County Medical Societies and the sources of funding for the School of Medicine. The interview closes with a discussion of the mergers of the Cox Heart Laboratory for Cancer Research, with the School of Medicine.
