A Roof Overhead: Creating A Conceptual Long Term Day Facility For Street Children And Orphans In Tehran, Iran, Marjan Safdari
A Roof Overhead: Creating A Conceptual Long Term Day Facility For Street Children And Orphans In Tehran, Iran, Marjan Safdari
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
With approximately 1.5 million orphans, over 200,000 street children, and 2,500 cases of child violence each year, Iran is not an ideal place for children. Although government groups and non-governmental organizations (NGO) have tried to provide facilities and institutional care centers, there are still many shortages that need to be addressed. Facilities that provide something more than the basic needs of these children are necessary. Orphans and street children face many difficulties during different stages of their lives that cause psychological and social problems for them. In addition, health problems and lack of education are other issues that they face. …

Bitácora. An Exploration Between Two Worlds>100 Illustrated Creatures, Mateo Rueda
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Bitácora is the spanish word for log or a journal that is related to the observations explorers would make about their journeys. We observe this world around us and measure it, we write and draw about it. Modern science has taught us how insignificant we are in the universe, how abstract reality itself can be. We can only continue to wonder and keep exploring through this unsettling but delightful paradigm known as existence itself.

I will design and create a body of functional ceramic vessels for soda firing. These ceramic vessels will have clean silhouettes, undulating rims, stretched proportions, and smooth surfaces. I intend for these characteristics to best display the wide-ranging texture, sheen, and hue possible with the soda firing process.

“I am not what I think I am. I am not what you think I am. I am what I think you think I am.” - Charles Horton Cooley
I’m interested in how, as social creatures, we see and present ourselves to others. My recent work explores image and identity, how they form, and how we tailor them to meet social standards and expectations. I look at the inaccuracies that arise from seeing ourselves through the lens of other people, and the consequential manipulated presentation of the self to these very same people - “The Looking-Glass-Self”.
My imagery is inspired …
Folding Forms, Susan Tibbitts
Folding Forms, Susan Tibbitts
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
“Folding Forms” is a creative research project that examined the process of converting two-dimensional graphics into three-dimensional forms for architectural and interior use. The work required a non-linear, design process involving hand sketching, digital graphics, printing, scoring, cutting and folding, resulting in conceptual, folded paper forms. Extensive prototype and exploratory models were built to achieve the desired outcome. The seemingly simple graphics produce complex forms.

The imagination is the tool of creation. Before something can exist physically, it must first be envisioned mentally, as an idea. Fantasy morphs into a reality and I am transported to a realm where I can walk along canyon floors and grapple peaks. I am forging these worlds…my primordial creation.
Parallaxis, Carl Ray Wilson
Parallaxis, Carl Ray Wilson
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Parallaxis first began with an observation in my hometown. At nighttime, like a moth attracted to a flame, I would notice empty buildings that were closed or never opened for various reasons and relate them to my own inner vacancy. Seeing the lights on in these empty places motivated my curiosity and kept me studiously coming back.
I continued my exploration of empty buildings in Utah. Taking note of how capturing reflections transformed my images from documentary photography to internal forms of expression. It was at this time that reflections became the driving force within my image making. I became …
Convergence, Megan R. Mitchell
Convergence, Megan R. Mitchell
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Fences, doors and windows indicate a point of intersection between inside and outside, public and private. These porous boundaries provide enclosure while also allowing access to an outside world. I am drawn to these divisions in space both as aesthetic and metaphorical objects. They are the point of departure for an exploration of the intersection between real and imagined worlds.
I am fascinated by the ways that my brain filters and interprets the outside world, which then takes root in dreams and the imagination. Certain structures and landscapes hold a specific symbolic power; while completely inanimate, they seem to mirror …

There is an certain discomfort that accompanies stepping outside the known into the unfamiliar. Yet in my life, the endeavors I have been the most uncertain about have often turned out to be the most rewarding to me. This is especially true in the case of traveling. My first major experience away from home came with an opportunity to participate in a month-long study abroad in Switzerland. My uneasiness about the prospect of spending an extended period of time thousands of miles away from home almost kept me from going. In my life, I can identify a small handful of …
From Form To Form, Pia Bergholtz
From Form To Form, Pia Bergholtz
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
My MFA thesis project is an exploration of the evolving nature of patterns, and how set shapes and lines can take on new form through position, scale, repetition and color. I have designed four Scandinavian style patterns with imagery and colors drawn from my roots and childhood in Sweden. With the inspiration and direction of a variety of different cultural imagery and form, I then explored how to make new patterns from each of these, ending up with over 100 different patterns and variations from the original four. The exhibit represents the wide range of transformation that can be achieved, …

Conscientious Design: Design Proposals For Accomodating Multiple Sclerosis Patients, Kristina Lynn Carter
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
This evidence-based research explains and provides interior design strategies for redesign and future design to meet the needs of MS patients. The project entails an analysis of MS patient needs, an assessment of interior design implementations in similar medical fields (with patients who have similar symptoms to those with MS), and the creation of information materials containing recommended design practices for distribution. The materials will include details on lay-outs, upholstery, space planning, suggested equipment, color schemes, and recommended practices to be applied to current or future facilities that treat MS patients. These materials provide previously unexplored and much needed research …

The past year and a half I have focused all my artistic effort on the subject of my thesis: The Intermountain Indian School at Brigham City, Utah. My artistic approaches and modes of depiction have varied greatly during this time period. The following describes the progression and purpose of my visual investigation and artistic development.
