Joseph Scrivner Ambrose IV was born in 1835 in Clay County, Kentucky, the sixth child of Joseph Scrivner Ambrose III and Hannah Clements Ambrose. J. S. Ambrose IV joined the Confederate States Army as a captain, Company F, 8th Kentucky Cavalry, on September 10, 1862, in Boone County, Kentucky. During the war, Ambrose participated in a Confederate incursion covering hundreds of miles of Union territory during a nearly month-long campaign, known as "Morgan's Raid." Led by General John Hunt Morgan, the legendary raid went deeper into the North than any other Confederate Army campaign, but the men were forced to …

Bernes K. Selph was born November 3, 1911, in Brown Springs, Arkansas, to Robert K. and Loura Durham Selph. He earned degrees from Ouachita Baptist College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Selph wrote several books and many articles for Baptist publications. Among his books are "The Christology of the Book of Hebrews" (1948); The Civil War in Saline County" (1961); and "My Autobiographical Diary" (1989). He also served on various Baptist associational, state, and national boards and agencies. Prescott First Baptist Church was organized in 1876 in Nevada County, Arkansas. The congregation of eight members worshipped in the Ansley Academy on West Main Street on the second Sunday of each month. A frame church was built in 1877, and a Sunday School was added in 1884. Through the years various other church structures have been constructed. The First Baptist Church of Prescott is currently affiliated with the Red River Baptist Association, Arkansas Baptist State Convention, and Southern Baptist Convention.

Finding Access And Digital Preservation Solutions For A Digitized Oral History Project: A Case Study, Krystyna K. Matusiak, Allison Tyler, Catherine Newton, Padma Polepeddi

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine affordable access and digital preservation solutions for digital collections developed by under-resourced small and mid-size cultural heritage organizations.

Design/methodology/approach – The paper presents a case study of Jeffco Stories, a collection of digitized oral histories created by the Jefferson County Public Library in Colorado.

Findings – This paper describes how the Jefferson County Public Library undertook a migration project of its oral history digital collection into an open access platform, Omeka and selected DuraCloud as a hosted digital preservation service.

A Long Strange Trip Through The Evolution Of Fan Production, Fan-Branding, And Historical Representation In The Grateful Dead Online Archive, Anna Richardson

This study explores how a digital music archive tells the story and contributes to the public memory of cult bands. Utilizing the Grateful Dead Archive Online (GDAO) as the primary data source, the researcher obtained a population of 26,835 items and categorized them by the production method of fan or band, item type, era, and logo. Content analysis illustrated themes within the archive in relation to the fannish production and activity within the fandom of the Grateful Dead. This article addresses challenges inherent in collaborative archival projects involving both large institutions and small historical societies. It identifies these unique problems and outlines potential solutions to overcome these issues. Examples are drawn from the Portal to American Jewish History project and contextualized within the professional literature on ethnic or community archives and archival collaboration. This project collected metadata from a wide range of Jewish history archives and aggregated the records in a single searchable website.

Presenting Moving Images To The Public: Opportunities And Choices, Fred C. Pond

When presenting your institution’s films on the web, you face a host of decisions: what formats should you use? which internet host sites will best serve your needs? should you apply institution logos/identifiers? what about web address redirects?

This discussion, which encourages audience participation, will address these concerns and more, include uploading mystery footage to help identify locations and people, employing on-screen timecodes to ensure accurate feedback, and searching out additional, even undiscovered, material to enhance the film’s context, such as diaries, scripts, and still photos.
