Difficulties With The Interordinal Laws Of Cultural Property As Applied In The United States, And Proposed Solutions, Jeffrey John Miles

This paper evaluates the interordinal web of international cultural property law as applied in the United States. The work explores problematic areas where law fails to adequately protect against illicit trade in cultural property from art to artifacts. The complexity in this area stems from the often opaque movements of cultural property and the overlapping legal regimes of foreign nation states and domestic federal and state laws. After evaluating the structure of these laws as applied in the United States, I propose solutions to improve coverage where lacunas exist.

The modern Craftsman movement is an attempt to break the contemporary mold, that is a desire to introduce a younger generation to a level of interior detail that has been lost in contemporary construction and material usage. Components such as drywall tend to envelop all contemporary residential surfaces leaving little room for tectonic expression and opportunities for detailing. Using Photogrammetry To Document, Analyze, And Reverse-Engineer Grave Markers, Robert Z. Selden Jr.

There are a wide range of applications for three-dimensional (3D) data in archaeology, and a diverse array of methods for collecting and analyzing those data. In this article, free 3D photogrammetry software (Autodesk 123D Catch) is used to document a series of grave markers. The data are subsequently exported to Geomagic Design X to demonstrate and briefly discuss the various potential analyses that might be used to illustrate the effects of preservation treatments and marker degradation through time. Further, one marker is reverse-engineered, illustrating the capacity of 3D modeling to expedite the process of design, should elements warrant replacement. Additional …

In recent years, boundaries between curated domestic space (typically open to the public, maintained by museum professionals, and supported by government or charitable funding), and privately occupied dwellings, have on occasion been eroded. Each year, usually as part of annual heritage events run by non-profit organisations, a small number of residents permit members of the public to view features of historic interest within their homes. This paper examines how the Ghetto of Rome was represented in the many view-plans and maps of Rome from the 16th through 18th centuries, and how this mapping both tells us much about the physical appearance of the Ghetto and also how it was perceived by others in particular and presented to others more generally.

In 2012, the librarians in the Design, Architecture, Art and Planning Library at the University of Cincinnati embarked on a series of assessments to determine the future for approximately 150,000 35 mm slides. This paper describes the process, results, and final determination. Included are remarks from two student assistants who were assigned to perform the assessment over a five-month period.
