In response to the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority’s Lower 9th Ward Development Initiative Request for Proposals, Habitat for Humanity (HFH), Inc. was awarded 48 vacant lots to construct single and two-family homes in the Lower 9th Ward. I provided a scope of services for HFH which included: converting the property data provided by HFH into a GIS-ready format (cleaning of data), converting the data into vector features in GIS, and creating maps displaying reported vacant lots within the neighborhood boundaries. These maps continue to support the organization as they move forward with their community outreach endeavors.

Toledo made national headlines in the mid-1940's when the legendary industrial designer, Norman Bel Geddes, was commissioned to develop a plan for the city's future.  Using archival work and field observation, this research analyzes the plan, and reflects on its impact on Toledo and on the design of American cities today.

Urban Beach Venues: Vulnerability And Sustainability In The Face Of Climate Change, Michael Raybould, David Anning, Liz Fredline, Dan Ware

This paper investigates the threats to beach venues posed by climate change and attempts to identify strategies that might be adopted by coastal managers and event managers to ensure that beaches continue to be viable event and recreation venues into the future. Analysis of coastal management research, local council records and tender documents, maps and plans of coastal works identifies six specific strategies for minimising the impacts of climate change on beach venues. These strategies aim to protect existing beach venues, increase the supply of alternative venues, minimise the event tourism impacts of negative media coverage of beach erosion events, …

This article describes the work by a graduate urban design studio from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s CRP
Department during the Spring Quarter, 2016. Under a contract with the City of Ventura’s, the students
explored the notion of a wellness district anchored by two major hospitals, and developed an urban
design concept plan that is consistent with the General Plan and the city’s economic strategy.
