The purpose of this master’s project thesis is to explore and implement the necessary professional museum practices to care for and preserve the private Vietnam War-era slide collection of Kenneth L. Swain Jr., an Air Force veteran. Through museum practices presented by leading museum professionals, the slide collection was examined and a plan implemented for slide care and maintenance. In conjunction with the preservation of this slide collection, an exhibition was curated in honor of Swain’s unique photo-documentary slide collection.

Sustainable development efforts frequently focus on understanding and promoting the factors that influence health and wellbeing. Urban environments have received attention in recent years as spaces which can increase psychological distress. Despite hypothesized reports of urban environments being less conducive to good mental health then natural environments, few studies have investigated the effects of urban form characteristics (size, density, nuisances, transportation, and housing characteristics) and mental health measures at the city level. Using 2014 data from the 500 largest cities in the United States, this thesis evaluates the relationship between urban form and aggregate self-report scores of poor mental health. …

In designing a thin shell structure to cover the performance space on Tribuna Anti Imperialista Jose Marti, in Havana, Cuba, we developed a heavily symbolic concept and further abstracted it to reach our design. Basing the concept on the quote to the right by Obama about US and Cuba relations, we wanted our design to be representative of a hand that works to adjoin the plaza to the US Embassy which is directly west of the site. The overall concept for this outdoor concrete shell structure, located in Furstliche Park in Inzigkofen, Germany, is derived from an abstracted ginkgo leaf. Drawing on inspiration from a poem about the two parts of the ginkgo leaf becoming one, we took the approach of combining both the natural and built environment into one cohesive piece. To connect the two, it was imperative that we place the shell on the site as to have the smallest impact. This essay examines the author’s choreography, Lacuna, and research integral to its representation. During the choreographic process, experimentation of how the human body moves in relation to different architectural space was observed. In collaboration with the cast of dancers, cohesion of personal experiences in particular locations was evaluated: specifically, investigation of how environments has the ability to trigger habits or patterns of movement from both past and present experiences. Learning environment research has typically focused on factors other than the physical environment (e.g., student/teacher relationships, organizational structure). This study investigated the relationship between the physical classroom environment and entry-level undergraduate statistics students’ (N = 844) academic beliefs and performance. Students were taught in either a technology-enhanced active learning classroom or a traditional lecture hall. This study investigated how undergraduate students in an entry level statistics course a) perceived the importance of the physical learning environment, b) conveyed expectations for and experiences of active engagement within that environment, and c) self-reported their personal capability judgments. ชุมชนและอุตสาหกรรมประมงริมแม่น้ำท่าจีน ตำบลท่าฉลอม ตำบลมหาชัย และตำบลโกรกกราก จังหวัดสมุทรสาคร ในอดีตเป็นชุมชนประมงริมแม่น้ำที่มีความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้คนและแม่น้ำที่เหนียวแน่นทั้งการอยู่อาศัยและการทำประมง แต่ปัจจุบันความสัมพันธ์เหล่านี้ถดถอยลงเนื่องจากถูกแทรกแซงจากปัจจัยต่างๆ ทำให้พื้นที่ริมน้ำถูกทิ้งร้าง จึงเป็นที่มาของการศึกษาครั้งนี้ โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาการเปลี่ยนแปลงสัณฐานชุมชนและพื้นที่ริมน้ำ 2) ศึกษาพัฒนาการของการทำประมงริมแม่น้ำท่าจีน 3) ศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างพัฒนาการของการทำประมงและการเปลี่ยนแปลงสัณฐานชุมชนและพื้นที่ริมแม่น้ำท่าจีน ตำบลมหาชัย ตำบลท่าฉลอม และตำบลโกรกกราก จังหวัดสมุทรสาครโดยทำการศึกษาจากการรวบรวมข้อมูลเอกสารเกี่ยวกับความเป็นมาของพื้นที่และการสำรวจการประกอบอาชีพ เพื่อพิจารณาการเปลี่ยนแปลงสัณฐานชุมชน คัดเลือกพื้นที่เพื่อทำรูปตัดแสดงการเปลี่ยนแปลงการใช้งานพื้นที่ริมน้ำโดยเก็บข้อมูลจากการรังวัดและสัมภาษณ์เจ้าของพื้นที่ นำข้อมูลที่ได้มาพิจารณาร่วมกับข้อมูลการพัฒนาการทำประมงริมแม่น้ำท่าจีน เพื่อวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างพัฒนาการของการทำประมงริมแม่น้ำท่าจีนและสัณฐานการเปลี่ยนแปลงชุมชนและพื้นที่ริมน้ำ ตำบลท่าฉลอม ตำบลมหาชัย และตำบลโกรกกราก จังหวัดสมุทรสาคร ผลการศึกษาแบ่งออกเป็น 4 ช่วงเวลาได้แก่ 1) ยุคสังคมพื้นบ้าน ก่อนปีพ.ศ. 2504 2) ยุคพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรม ปีพ.ศ. 2504 - พ.ศ. 2525 3) ยุคอุตสาหกรรมประมงซบเซา ปีพ.ศ. 2525 - พ.ศ. 2558 4) ยุคจัดระเบียบการทำประมง ปีพ.ศ. 2558 - ปัจจุบัน โดยการพัฒนาการทำประมงตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบันได้ส่งผลถึงการตั้งถิ่นฐาน วิถีชีวิตริมน้ำ และลักษณะทางกายภาพของพื้นที่ริมน้ำดังนี้ 1) การทำประมง เปลี่ยนจากการทำประมงพื้นบ้านมาสู่การทำอุตสาหกรรมประมงและเกิดอุตสาหกรรมต่างๆ ที่เกี่ยวเนื่องกับการทำประมง ต่อมาการทำประมงประสบภาวะซบเซาเนื่องจากการประกาศข้อตกลงทางทะเลจนถูกจำกัดการทำประมงในปัจจุบัน ซึ่งเป็นผลจากการจัดระเบียบการทำประมง 2) การตั้งถิ่นฐาน มีการตั้งถิ่นฐานอย่างหนาแน่นบริเวณพื้นที่ริมน้ำตำบลท่าฉลอมและขยายตัวมายังฝั่งตำบลมหาชัยและตำบลโกรกกราก จนภายหลังมีการกระจายตัวออกไปจากพื้นที่ตามแนวเครือข่ายถนน และในปัจจุบันอุตสาหกรรมต่างๆ ที่ตั้งอยู่บริเวณพื้นที่ริมน้ำต้องเลิกกิจการเพราะการหยุดชะงักของการทำประมง 3) วิถีชีวิตริมน้ำ มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงจากอดีตที่เคยมีความสัมพันธ์ของผู้คนและแม่น้ำในการทำประมง การเดินทาง และการขนส่ง ต่อมาพื้นที่ริมน้ำมีความสำคัญต่อการขนส่งสินค้ามากขึ้นในช่วงที่มีการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรม จนในช่วงที่การทำประมงซบเซาทำให้บทบาทของแม่น้ำทั้งในแง่การเดินทางและขนส่งสินค้ามีความสำคัญลดลง จนกระทั่งหมดไปในปัจจุบันเนื่องจากมีการพัฒนาถนนและเกิดปัญหาในการทำประมง 4) ลักษณะทางกายภาพของพื้นที่ริมน้ำ มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงจากในอดีตซึ่งใช้สะพานไม้ขนาดเล็กในการขนส่งสินค้าและซ่อมแซมเครื่องมือประมง มีการทำประมงตามพื้นที่ริมตลิ่ง และพัฒนาเป็นท่าเทียบเรือที่มีประสิทธิภาพในการขนถ่ายสินค้ามากขึ้น จนในช่วงที่การทำประมงซบเซาทำให้พื้นที่ริมน้ำมีการใช้งานลดลง มีการสร้างเขื่อนป้องกันตลิ่งที่ทำให้การใช้งานพื้นที่ริมน้ำทำได้ยากลำบาก จนการทำประมงถูกจำกัดส่งผลให้พื้นที่ดังกล่าวถูกทิ้งร้างในที่สุด ในปัจจุบันจึงมีการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวเพื่อรื้อฟื้นความสำคัญของพื้นที่ริมน้ำ โดยใช้พื้นที่ริมน้ำสาธารณะในการจัดงานเทศกาลและประเพณีเพื่อดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยว

ในปัจจุบัน ประเทศไทยได้มีการนำประติมากรรมมาเป็นองค์ประกอบของอาคารในการสร้างเอกลักษณ์และสุนทรียภาพที่ดีให้กับพื้นที่ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2524 จากการสำรวจพบว่ามีงานประติมากรรมประกอบอาคารเพิ่มมากขึ้นในเขตพื้นที่กรุงเทพมหานคร โดยแต่ละอาคารมีวิธีการที่แตกต่างกันออกไปซึ่งต้องมีการประสานงานกับผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องหลายกลุ่ม นำมาสู่งานวิจัยนี้ ซึ่งมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาลักษณะงานก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรมประกอบอาคาร ตลอดจนศึกษาขั้นตอนของงานก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรมประกอบอาคารที่สัมพันธ์กับการบริหารโครงการก่อสร้าง เพื่อวิเคราะห์และอภิปรายถึงปัญหาของงานก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรมประกอบอาคารในเขตพื้นที่กรุงเทพมหานคร โดยมีวิธีการดำเนินวิจัยคือ ศึกษาแนวคิดและทฤษฎีเกี่ยวกับประติมากรรม และจัดการงานก่อสร้าง เก็บข้อมูลโดยทำการสำรวจและสัมภาษณ์ผู้ว่าจ้าง ผู้ออกแบบพื้นที่ และผู้ออกแบบประติมากรรมของอาคารกรณีศึกษา 23 อาคาร จากการศึกษาพบว่าวัสดุที่นิยมมากที่สุดในการก่อสร้างประติมากรรมประกอบอาคารคือ วัสดุบรอนซ์ วัสดุไฟเบอร์กลาส และวัสดุสเตนเลสตามลำดับ โดยมีวิธีการได้มาซึ่งประติมากรรมประกอบอาคาร 3 วิธี คือ การจัดจ้างโดยตรง การประกวดราคา และการประกวดแบบ นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่า สามารถแบ่งขั้นตอนของงานก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรมได้ทั้งหมด 5 ขั้นตอน ประกอบด้วย ขั้นตอนการได้รับมอบหมายงาน ขั้นตอนการออกแบบ ขั้นตอนการจัดซื้อจัดจ้าง ขั้นตอนการก่อสร้าง และ ขั้นตอนการติดตั้งงานประติมากรรม ซึ่งเมื่อนำไปพิจารณาความสัมพันธ์กับหลักการบริหารโครงการ 5 ช่วงจากกรณีศึกษา 23 อาคารนั้น พบว่าขั้นตอนการได้รับมอบหมายงานประติมากรรมเกิดขึ้นในช่วงศึกษาความเป็นได้โครงการและช่วงการออกแบบโครงการเท่ากันมากที่สุดเป็นจำนวนช่วงละ 8 อาคาร ขั้นตอนการออกแบบประติมากรรมเกิดขึ้นในช่วงการออกแบบโครงการมากที่สุดเป็นจำนวน 12 อาคาร ขั้นตอนการจัดซื้อจัดจ้างประติมากรรมเกิดขึ้นในช่วงก่อสร้างโครงการมากที่สุดเป็นจำนวน 11 อาคาร ขั้นตอนการก่อสร้างประติมากรรมเกิดขึ้นในช่วงก่อสร้างโครงการมากที่สุดเป็นจำนวน 19 อาคาร และขั้นตอนการติดตั้งประติมากรรมเกิดขึ้นในช่วงหลังการก่อสร้างมากที่สุดจำนวน 17 อาคาร อีกทั้งยังพบว่า ปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นมากที่สุดเป็นปัญหาด้านกระบวนการ รองลงมาคือปัญหาด้านสถานที่ และปัญหาด้านบุคคลตามลำดับ นอกจากนี้ ผลการศึกษายังชี้ให้เห็นว่า ขั้นตอนการได้รับมอบหมายงานที่เกิดขึ้นในช่วงศึกษาความเป็นไปได้ของโครงการ เป็นขั้นตอนเดียวที่ไม่พบปัญหาในการก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรม ซึ่งมีจำนวนทั้งหมด 8 อาคาร จาก 23 อาคาร จึงสามารถสรุปเป็นแนวทางในการจัดการงานก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรมได้ว่า ควรมีการเริ่มต้นกระบวนการในช่วงของการศึกษาความเป็นไปได้อาคาร เพื่อให้เกิดผลกระทบต่อการบริหารโครงการก่อสร้างน้อยที่สุด นอกจากนี้ผลการศึกษาชี้ให้เห็นถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างขั้นตอนของงานก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรมกับการบริหารโครงการก่อสร้างว่ามีความจำเป็นต้องประสานงานกับผู้เกี่ยวข้องในหลายกลุ่มเพื่อให้เกิดการวางแผนอย่างเหมาะสม ด้วยเหตุนี้ การศึกษางานก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรมจึงถือเป็นเรื่องสำคัญที่จะนำไปสู่ความรู้ความเข้าใจของลักษณะงานก่อสร้างและติดตั้งประติมากรรมที่เกิดขึ้นในแต่ละโครงการ อันเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการบริหารโครงการก่อสร้างต่อไป

ปัจจุบันธุรกิจโรงพยาบาลมีการขยายตัวมากขึ้น ผู้ประกอบการโรงพยาบาลต่างตระหนักถึงอัตราการแข่งขันทางการตลาด จึงให้ความสนใจในกลยุทธ์ในการให้บริการรูปแบบต่างๆ เพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับความต้องการของผู้บริโภคมากขึ้น การออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมที่ช่วยส่งเสริมต่อการรักษามีผลต่อการรับรู้ความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีเป็นหนึ่งกลยุทธ์ที่นำมาใช้ โดยเฉพาะสภาพแวดล้อมภายในห้องพักผู้ป่วยซึ่งเป็นบริเวณที่ผู้รับบริการต้องใช้เวลาในการรักษาตัวนานที่สุด โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์วิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบทางสถาปัตยกรรมที่มีความสัมพันธ์ต่อการรับรู้ถึงความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีซึ่งอาจนำไปสู่การตัดสินใจพักฟื้นในโรงพยาบาลระดับสูง งานวิจัยนี้เก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มประชากรตัวอย่างจำนวน 120 คน อายุระหว่าง 20-60 ปี โดยให้ดูภาพจำลองการตกแต่งภายใน การใช้ผนังทาสี ผนังวัสดุไม้ และอุณหภูมิสีของแสง รวมเป็นจำนวน 10 ภาพ และสอบถามการรับรู้ความเป็นอยู่ที่ดี ด้วยแบบสอบถามการรับรู้ 6 ด้าน ความสะดวกสบาย สะอาด ผ่อนคลาย มีชีวิตชีวา มีราคา และน่าเชื่อถือ จากวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติพบว่า ปัจจัยที่เกิดผลกระทบต่อกลุ่มตัวอย่างมากที่สุดคืออุณหภูมิสีของแสง โดยอุณหภูมิสีของแสง warm white จะมีค่าเฉลี่ยการรับรู้ทุกด้านมากกว่า daylight อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ห้องที่ตกแต่งด้วยผนังวัสดุไม้สีอ่อนได้รับค่าเฉลี่ยการรับรู้เชิงบวกสูงกว่าไม้สีเข้ม ผนังทาสีเขียวและทาสีฟ้ามีค่าเฉลี่ยการรับรู้กว่าผนังสีขาว งานวิจัยเสนอแนะว่าแนวทางการออกแบบภายในห้องพักผู้ป่วยระดับสูงควรมีการเลือกใช้ อุณหภูมิสีของแสง warm white เพื่อสร้างการรับรู้ความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีเป็นหลัก ควบคู่ไปกับการเลือกใช้ทั้งไม้สีอ่อนและผนังทาสีอ่อน

"สาขาสถาปัตยกรรมผังเมือง" ถูกกำหนดใช้ขึ้นครั้งแรกในพระราชบัญญัติวิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรม พ.ศ. 2508 แต่ยังไม่มีการบังคับใช้ในทางปฏิบัติ จวบจนมีพระราชบัญญัติสถาปนิก พ.ศ. 2543 ซึ่งมีการปรับเปลี่ยนนิยามของวิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรมรวมไปถึงเนื้อหาและวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อให้ครอบคลุมและสอดคล้องกับสภาวะการณ์ปัจจุบัน จากนั้นมีการประกาศใช้กฎกระทรวงกำหนดวิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรมควบคุม พ.ศ. 2549 โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ คือ เพื่อกำหนดให้วิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรมควบคุมเป็นไปตามพระราชบัญญัติสถาปนิก พ.ศ. 2543[1] ซึ่งมีการระบุความหมายและขอบเขตวิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรมควบคุมแต่ละสาขาในประกาศกฎกระทรวงฉบับนี้ ปัจจุบันองค์ความรู้ ความหมาย และขอบเขตวิชาชีพสาขาสถาปัตยกรรมผังเมืองยังคงมีความคลุมเครือต่อผู้ปฏิบัติวิชาชีพที่เกี่ยวข้องทั้งทางตรงและทางอ้อม ซึ่งทำให้ไม่เกิดความสอดคล้องต่อวัตถุประสงค์ของพระราชบัญญัติสถาปนิก พ.ศ. 2543 อาทิเช่น การพัฒนาวิทยาการด้านสถาปัตยกรรม การควบคุมดูแลมาตรฐานความรู้และการประกอบวิชาชีพ และการส่งเสริมคุณภาพการประกอบวิชาชีพ เป็นต้น ด้วยที่มาและความสำคัญเหล่านี้จึงนำมาซึ่งการศึกษาวิจัยเกี่ยวกับ "ขอบเขตการทำงานของวิชาชีพสาขาสถาปัตยกรรมผังเมือง" ในกรณีศึกษา ประเภทงานการจัดทำผังจัดรูปที่ดินและการจัดทำผังนิคมอุตสาหกรรม ซึ่งเป็น 2 ใน 7 ประเภทงานตามกฎกระทรวงกำหนดวิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรมควบคุมที่มีพระราชบัญญัติควบคุมอยู่ด้วย รวมถึงสามารถสะท้อนการทำงานในบริบทเชิงพื้นที่ ชุมชน และเมืองมากกว่าประเภทงานอื่น ๆ โดยใช้กระบวนการศึกษาวิจัยด้วยวิธีการเก็บข้อมูลจากการสัมภาษณ์กลุ่มตัวอย่างซึ่งมีคุณสมบัติเกี่ยวข้องโดยตรงกับสาขาสถาปัตยกรรมผังเมืองในเชิงวิชาการและวิชาชีพ เพื่อนำมาสู่การวิเคราะห์ อภิปรายผลและสรุปผลโดยใช้ทฤษฎีและแนวคิดที่ได้จากการทบทวนวรรณกรรม จากผลการศึกษาวิจัยพบว่า ขอบเขตการทำงานของวิชาชีพสาขาสถาปัตยกรรมผังเมือง มิได้มีผลบังคับใช้ตามกฎกระทรวงกำหนดวิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรมควบคุม พ.ศ. 2549 เนื่องจากประเภทงานที่ถูกกำหนดขึ้นตามกฎกระทรวงฯนั้นไม่สอดคล้องกับการปฏิบัติวิชาชีพที่เกิดขึ้นจริง ซึ่งเกิดจากหลายสาเหตุ เช่น พระราชบัญญัติที่ควบคุมทั้งสองประเภทงานไม่มีการกำหนดคุณสมบัติที่เฉพาะเจาะจงของผู้ออกแบบ เนื้อหาของงานในแต่ละประเภทยังคงมีความคลุมเครือ รวมไปถึงข้อค้นพบเกี่ยวกับปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นหลังจากมีการแบ่งขอบเขตวิชาชีพสถาปัตยกรรมควบคุม ซึ่งสามารถใช้ประโยชน์ต่อการพัฒนาวงการวิชาชีพสาขานี้ต่อไป
