The Impact Of Project Delivery Methods On Dispute Occurrence In Public Highway Projects, Samaneh Nasrollahi, Ghada M. Gad, Alan Atalah

Master of Technology Management Plan II Graduate Projects

The construction industry is a complex and competitive industry in which different participants with different expertise, talents, and levels of knowledge work together to achieve their objectives and complete a project. Sine different participants with different interest involve in a construction project, therefore, conflicts arise and become inevitable. Conflicts in projects will cause an adversarial environment which result to disputes. Hence, if conflicts are not well managed and resolved in a timely manner, they quickly turn into disputes, which prevent the successful completion of the construction project, in terms of cost and time, and increasing the potential for poor project …

Value Engineering Of Construction Quantities: "The Golden Report", Chad J. Cornwell Sep 2016

Value Engineering Of Construction Quantities: "The Golden Report", Chad J. Cornwell

Construction Management

The common materials that are seen everyday on a construction project are concrete, slab dowel baskets and base. Each of these materials can be most seen on highway and road construction. This is often taken for granted since it is in our everyday life. Each of these materials were gathered from a heavy civil project in the greater San Diego area. When collecting my information in the field we gathered existing quantities of concrete, slab dowel baskets, and aggregate. After all of this information is compiled and sent to the project manager hopefully this will result in a decrease in …

Building Hope: A Community + Water Initiative, La Villa De San Francisco, Honduras, Christopher D. Mansfield Jul 2016

Building Hope: A Community + Water Initiative, La Villa De San Francisco, Honduras, Christopher D. Mansfield

Masters Theses

It is my contention that through activating participatory design and community engagement strategies, in conjunction with innovative construction methods that address issues of resource scarcity, the standard of living and level of accessibility to critical resources in impoverished portions of Honduras can be drastically improved. The newly provided model of construction can be done it such a way that it is cost effective in its building method, and provides highly sought after scarce critical resources. This allows participants to allocate more of their finances towards other necessary resources they normally would not be able to acquire.

A new community center …

Benefits Of Personalized Construction Management Software: A Case Study, Mitchell S. Brodnansky Jun 2016

Benefits Of Personalized Construction Management Software: A Case Study, Mitchell S. Brodnansky

Construction Management

In today’s construction industry, one of the most important aspects of any project, aside from health and safety, is the ability to increase productivity through proper management applications. There are an abundance of programs available to today’s industry (Patterson, 2015); however, some companies are creating their own versions. Many of these programs are tailored to the specific needs of the individual companies. This case study is an in-depth evaluation of personalized construction management software that was implemented by NOVO Construction. It also evaluates the employee preference of personalized software versus software readily available on the market today. The result of …

Architectural Engineering

The project will be a case study performed on Epoch Estate Wines Production Facility in Templeton California. The building is a cut and cover project which was designed to hug the existing oak trees on site. The building serves as a capstone to the Architectural Engineering curriculum because it seamlessly combines the four main structural building materials: steel, concrete, masonry and timber, while also including every lateral force resisting system into one succinct project. During the design of the project, meetings with the architecture of record and client representative occurred where discussion about design procedure and client’s needs took place. …

Case Study: An Effective Model For Green Roofs In San Diego County, Charles Andrews Iii Jun 2016

Case Study: An Effective Model For Green Roofs In San Diego County, Charles Andrews Iii

Construction Management

Green roofs provide a myriad of environmental and financial benefits to a building and its owner. They can provide a pleasing outdoor aesthetic in an urban environment, as well as provide stormwater management and energy savings in an arid climate. California State University San Marcos completed a new University Student Union in 2014 that included a 2,540 square foot Live Roof system on its upper terrace. Supplier, contractor, and facilities team members were interviewed to analyze the success of the project from several viewpoints. The green roof was found to meet the University’s goals on aesthetic design, energy, and stormwater …

Is Zero Net Energy 2020 Actually Attainable, Perceptions Of Various Professionals Effected, Michael Aldridge Jun 2016

Is Zero Net Energy 2020 Actually Attainable, Perceptions Of Various Professionals Effected, Michael Aldridge

Construction Management

California has created a mandate that will require all new residential buildings to become Zero Net Energy by 2020. Some are already doing it others don’t know what it means, and some don’t think it will be possible. Those that already do it are doing it without any extra cost. All that is required is, on average, a 4KW roof solar panel system. This is something that easy to install and only requires a little more planning during the design phase. There are many other things that a designer and builder can do to successfully reach ZNE including focus on …

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Isolated by the Tibetan highlands which frame Yunnan’s northwest fringes, the ethnic minorities who call the region home live in rural settings ranging from rice-terraced fields to tropical forests; lifestyle unchanged for hundreds of years. However, with globalization causing an exposure to western standards of living, in conjunction with the country’s predisposition towards all things foreign, the people of Yunnan have begun forgoing generations of vernacular architecture in favor of modern materials and regionally defunct construction methods. Here, we will seek to address this foible of architectural development by offering theoretical construction methods for housing types found throughout the region, …
