Planning for closure requires in depth analysis into many operational, environmental, and social factors. Ideally, the planning process should resolve as many of the technical, social, and aesthetic requirements as possible by systematically addressing the various elements that influence the final design. This research identified the significant issues related to planning for the end use of the current Logan landfill after it reaches capacity in 18-20 years and the associated lagoons and wetlands. The current closure plan calls for simply recontouring the landfill to stabilize the slopes, then revegetating. The location of the site has serious implications for environmental impact …

This study had two goals: first, to establish a need to use native plant materials for planting and revegetation of highway right of ways in Utah; and secondly, to develop a list of potential native plants suitable for highway planting in Utah.

To accomplish these two goals, three steps were completed. Correspondence was exchanged with officials of other state highway departments to determine their attitudes concerning the use of native plants for highway planting. This thesis project will explore the landscape site development of fossil fuel steam electric stations as it is presently practiced by electric utility companies, to determine what architectural, engineering, aesthetic, and climatological problems are being created through the engineering requirements acting upon' the site during site development and construction phases of power stations. It will identify typical problem areas that can be resolved by the Landscape Architect through the practical application of landscape architecture principles, the design use and influence of plant material, topography, and the environment.
