Now days, technology is everywhere, in our homes and working areas, we even carry a lot of electronic technology with us. It is one of the most used notions and a part of life. Ourhouses also have a lot of electronic technology, it relieves our lives. Technology can also make our space more comfortable, saves our time in many ways. However, technology can not physically enlarge or replace our spaces. Flexibility is an essential component of our lives, increases our space and allows the most possibilities through the changes of our lives. It remains a part of our lives and …

Exploration Of Housing Evolution In Tirana During The Years 1929-1943, Oketa Hoxha, Florian Nepravishta, Ani Tola(Panariti)
UBT International Conference
This paper traces the evolution of housing typologies, focusing in Tirana, Albania. The study reviews the fundamentals of housing throughout the two historical periods, 1929-1932 and 1939-1943. The housing projects analysed are designed mostly by Austrian and Italian architects. The methodological approach is based on reviewing a number of case studies starting from one-family house to multi-family housing typology. The main purpose of this paper is to identify the process of transformation and development of housing based on the typologies, functionality, and occupancy. Also, particular elements of asthetics are analyzed and compared. This study highlights that the improvement of living …

The urgent need for energy consumption reduction and trends of global warming leads toward exploring possibilities to “hide” living space from explosion to climate changes as a result of global warming. This paper aims to present benefits of underground houses, underground living space. Housing is elementary process of mankind life that was performed from the existence of life in different forms, shapes, levels and social developments. House, as one used to get protected by phenomena of the nature, historically used in different shapes, levels and materials, created mentality that one percept as protective, and isolated space, for life activities. This …
Housing Availability, Accessibility And Affordability For Nebraska's Rural Aging Populations, Jordan G. Grummert Rasmussen
Housing Availability, Accessibility And Affordability For Nebraska's Rural Aging Populations, Jordan G. Grummert Rasmussen
Community and Regional Planning Program: Theses and Student Projects
Rural America and the nation as a whole has entered a phase of significant demographic change, as the number of Americans over the age of 65 is estimated to double by 2050. Nebraska counties and the state are, too, experiencing this shift in the age demographic. As the population ages, consideration must be given to the housing options for older adults, specifically those who reside and wish to remain in rural areas.
While broad consideration is given to either population aging or housing in rural areas, there is limited county level analysis adjoining these demographic and housing realities. This study …

Integral Perspectives, Henry Brian Cheek
Integral Perspectives, Henry Brian Cheek
Masters Theses
Integral Perspectives is a method to architectural design that encompasses four different approaches. The four approaches, or perspectives, I chose to focus on include: Cultural, Experiential, Performance, and Systems. Designing with each of these perspectives in mind, I intend to create a more holistic and integral design solution. My thesis explores this methodology using the affordable housing crisis in Nashville, TN.
An Evidence-Based Approach To Designing Low-Income Housing Communities, Kaitlin Ward
An Evidence-Based Approach To Designing Low-Income Housing Communities, Kaitlin Ward
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
In the field of interior design, functionality and aesthetics are combined to create spaces that are beautiful, but also serve a variety of purposes. Broadly categorized into residential and commercial sectors, interior design considers the health and wellness of users in a space, and strives to improve the standard of living. Quality interior design is often treated as a luxury afforded only to the wealthy, although the field can and should be applied to benefit a wider demographic. Intelligent design and space planning can be used as a tool for community-building, especially among populations often overlooked due to reasons such …
Home-By Us: Togethernest Alternative Practice, Kristen M. Schulte
Home-By Us: Togethernest Alternative Practice, Kristen M. Schulte
Architecture Masters of Science Program: Theses
Responding to the affordable housing crisis, the proposed practice leverages tools typically associated with internet-based startups and technology companies to assemble teams and build efficiencies into the building procurement process. This approach facilitates access for an income demographic that would not normally engage an architect. Through a process like online dating, the practice assembles small groups of owner-developers to design, finance, and build their own homes. Participating households are advised on location and project approach based on their self-reported preferences; and matched with others with similar preferences. Collaborative mass customization of each home is achieved through a mix of online …
City By The Sea, Izuchukwu O. Ojukwu
City By The Sea, Izuchukwu O. Ojukwu
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
This thesis investigates the current state of slums globally. The thesis argues that many of the hazardous environments of slums established is a product of the negative output devised by the current housing situation in said slum. The living quarters of residents within most slums exemplify how much the citizens are not able/willing to treat the area as a home. The lack of care and devices to help reduce the amount of pollution, resource scarcity, and overall damage to the environment can arguably be solved simply by redesigning the residential units within the region. By designing a new living unit …
Scalar Resiliency In The Age Of Disruption, Brandon Aultman
Scalar Resiliency In The Age Of Disruption, Brandon Aultman
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
Natural storm surges and global sea level rise cause devastating effects, whether it’s leaving over a million of residents homeless or dooming an entire
coastline ecosystem with little to no hopes of recovery. Current responsive methods consist the issue of unequal priortization within coastal resiliency
design because of site scalar characteristics. A design that incorporates an equity of attention towards all elements of resiliency will lead to a responsive
solution that can transcend any scale of site. I will begin to analyze the elements of effective resiliency; adaptation, affordability, community, sustainability
and customization, in order to provide a balanced solution …
Genealogy Of Theories Of The City: Spatial Components As An Index Of Socioeconomic Capitalism, Zachary Grewe
Genealogy Of Theories Of The City: Spatial Components As An Index Of Socioeconomic Capitalism, Zachary Grewe
Architecture Undergraduate Honors Theses
Starting after the industrial revolution, the city has increasingly represented the spatial components of capitalism and has increasingly been conceived of as a built form of capital. To understand the lineage of ideas that has led to the current understanding of the city, this study creates a genealogy of theories that cites six significant projects starting with the Garden City in 1898 and concluding with the Yokohama International Passenger Terminal in 2002. The spatial components of capitalism; production, consumption, and housing are used as an index to better understand the socioeconomic influence of capitalism on the city as well as …
Regenerative Refugee Housing: Creating Temporary Housing With Low Environmental Impact, Erika Guldner
Regenerative Refugee Housing: Creating Temporary Housing With Low Environmental Impact, Erika Guldner
Architecture Thesis Prep
Refugee settlements often have a negative environmental impact; by promoting options for sustainable development from the outset, this can be avoided. A plan for a refugee settlement was made, along with a plan for the individual residential units. To expedite the construction process, units were divided into components. These components could be easily assembled on site. Once the refugee settlement is no longer needed, components can be used for other purposes, such as, affordable housing or the components themselves can be broken down to be either recycled or used for other purposes.
Learning From The Informal: Designing A New Housing Typology For Informal Development In Cairo, Cherif Farid
Learning From The Informal: Designing A New Housing Typology For Informal Development In Cairo, Cherif Farid
Architecture Senior Theses
This thesis examines what to design when designing for the informal and questions the role of the architect. The project combines the inherent qualities of the informal; self-built, incremental construction, and flexibility of spatial uses, with alternative urban design strategies.
The design strategy is to control the ground plane and roof scape, while leaving an open frame in between to be incrementally filled with housing. This frame allows residents to voice their identity by physically constructing their homes. It introduces an urban system that is composed of blocks that consist of an aggregation of identical units. The blocks are connected …
@The_New_House: An Online-Offline Manifesto, Ana Paola Hernandez Derbez, Domenica Velasco
@The_New_House: An Online-Offline Manifesto, Ana Paola Hernandez Derbez, Domenica Velasco
Architecture Senior Theses
The house, is one of the most fundamental architectural archetypes, has long been used as unbuilt or built manifestos to declare the avant-garde of the discipline. As designers, we need to re-visualize design concepts to create architecture that integrates and corresponds to the way we dwell. Innovating design in the same way technology and digitalization have been innovating production and the way we live. This thesis investigates a return to the design of a house as a manifesto, focusing on today’s advanced modes of fabrication and evolving ways of living to challenge the current design mindset.
Emergency Homes, Denise A. Lee
Emergency Homes, Denise A. Lee
Architecture Senior Theses
“Designers cannot just stand by and watch as the refugee crisis unfolds,” and although architects and designers can’t save the world, through design, we can alleviate consequences of scarcity. It’s not about creating a structure that will withstand the ends of time or endure the most extreme climate, it’s about how to respond in an emergency with the most geographically intelligent prototype that utilizes the utmost importance of on site materials so the bare minimum of an instruction manual or few key tools to offset distribution obstacles. This thesis is aimed to design for the 99 in disaster relief.

Open Source Architecture: Redefining Residential Architecture In Islamabad, Mariam Yaqub
Open Source Architecture: Redefining Residential Architecture In Islamabad, Mariam Yaqub
Architecture Theses
Islamabad, a planned city, has grown rapidly since its conception in the 1960’s but it has not followed its predetermined fate but rather grown haphazardly due to the lack of infrastructure available to implement Doxiadis’s master plan. The city was unable to meet the housing requirements of the people causing them to build gated communities on the outskirts of Islamabad and its sister city, Rawalpindi. The market demands caused city prices to rise exponentially, increasing the economic divide between the social classes. The city which was once supposed to reflect diversity of social classes became home to the elite and …

Voices Of Cully: A Case Study Of The Living Cully Weatherization And Home Repair Project 2.0, Lucy J.T. Cultrera
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
The Cully neighborhood is situated in the Northeast quadrant of Portland, Oregon. It is 2.75 square mile plot of land and home to roughly 13,000 people. In addition to being one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Portland, it is the most densely populated, with the smallest amount of parkland per capita. Over the last two decades, home value has increased 203% in Cully, compared to a 90% citywide increase. Amidst these development trends are stories of incredible resilience, resistance and activism from the affected community. My project is a case study of one anti-displacement initiative, which was developed and …
