Adaptive Façades’ Technologies To Enhance Building Energy Performance And More, Kawther Ahmed Hameedaldeen, Ahmed Omar M.S. Mostafa

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

With the increased enrolment the digital technologies and modern computer applications in AEC industry, a parallel increase and upgrade happened in the work competition leading to new benchmarks in such fields. The importance of these technologies increased with their investment of improving energy consumption in buildings, which represents a world crisis. The problem got worse in hot arid desert zones, as the case of some regions in KSA, where most users tend to spend most of their time in internal air-conditioned spaces, which led to the increase of the consumption of cooling energy, that reach 40% of the total Energy …

Analysis Of The Relationship Between Ieq And Energy Consumption In Uae University Building: Impact Of Thermal And Lighting Comfort On Energy Usage, Salama Abdulla Al Ghaithi Nov 2022

Analysis Of The Relationship Between Ieq And Energy Consumption In Uae University Building: Impact Of Thermal And Lighting Comfort On Energy Usage, Salama Abdulla Al Ghaithi

Theses

The Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ) of buildings becomes increasingly critical as people spend more than 90% of their time inside buildings based on the National Human Activity Pattern Survey (NHAPS) (Klepeis et al., 2001). The quality of the indoor environment in a building has been shown to have a significant impact on users' productivity and energy consumption. Further, if tenants are working in a comfortable indoor environment, absenteeism rates and incidental expenses, such as medical expenses, will be reduced. For instance, a comfortable workplace increases productivity by 10-15% and reduces absenteeism by 2.5% (Leyten & Boerstra, 2003). According to the …

Coping with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, Saudi Arabian construction sector has witnessed a major qualitative leap in recent decades, and is considered one of the highest performer in the construction markets in the Middle East with a value of about $37 Billion. Despite the numerous efforts made by the project authorities in the Kingdom to support this sector to finalize construction projects in accordance with the approved scope, budget, and time schedule, and to avoid the causes of delay or stumbling, the reality of construction projects in The Kingdom shows that the rate of delayed and stumbled …

The Saudi Households’ Requirements Of Dwelling Unit’S Components: A Case Study Of Riyadh, Ahmed Abdullah Alghamdi, Ali Salem Bahammam Oct 2022

The Saudi Households’ Requirements Of Dwelling Unit’S Components: A Case Study Of Riyadh, Ahmed Abdullah Alghamdi, Ali Salem Bahammam

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

Abstract

Due to the large number of dwelling’s components and their big sizes, the size of a single-family dwelling in Saudi Arabia is big, which leads it to high costs. Such phenomenon has been shaped by the society during the period of economic ease, when easy access to free grants of residential plot and affordable Real Estate Development Fund loans were available, which later has been continued through the regulations of land division and building.

The study aims to determine the real needs (of the dwelling’s components, their number, and their areas), of the Saudi households who are wishing to …

Drafting A Methodology To Identify Local Indicators Of Environmental And Social Sustainability In Heritage Sites Al Diriyah Supervisory Area In Al Riyadh City As Case Study, Noha Ibrahim Kassab, Elsayed Amer, Faisal Fahad Bin Sulaiman Oct 2022

Drafting A Methodology To Identify Local Indicators Of Environmental And Social Sustainability In Heritage Sites Al Diriyah Supervisory Area In Al Riyadh City As Case Study, Noha Ibrahim Kassab, Elsayed Amer, Faisal Fahad Bin Sulaiman

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

The traditional residential neighborhoods represent the tangible memory of peoples' history, so they must be preserved and sustainable. Al Riyadh city has witnessed rapid urban development, which leads the government to preserve its heritage by developing the historic center ‘’Diriyah’’ and its surroundings over ‘’Wadi Hanifa’’, which includes setting environmental and social sustainability standards to ensure the continuity and prosperity of that region. The problem of the research lies in identifying the sources of environmental and social sustainability indicators and the mechanism of eliciting local ones by identifying the components of the traditional neighborhoods as well as the environmental and …

Analyzing Residents’ Satisfaction With Residential Neighborhood Gardens Within The Framework Of The Quality Of Life Program, Muhanad Alsaedi, Waleed Alzamil

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

This paper deals with analyzing the extent of residents' satisfaction with the role of residential neighborhood gardens in the framework of enhancing the applications of the Quality of life program document. The problem of the research lies in the incompatibility of the current status of neighborhood gardens with the principles of the concept of livability, which are infrastructure and transportation, health care, economic and educational opportunities, security and social environment, housing, urban design and the environment. Therefore, the research paper aims to elicit the most prominent problems facing neighborhood gardens from the point of view of the residents and within …

Residents’ Satisfaction With Apartment Living In Kuwait: A Study Of The Design Of Jaber Al Ahmad Apartments, Fawzi Alzamil, Qutaiba E. Al-Shaheen

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

This study examines public housing in Kuwait and Jaber Al Ahmad apartments housing project. It tries to figure out how housing provision, citizen expectations, and satisfaction are linked.

Kuwait's government provide housing for Kuwaiti married couples as part of a welfare program. This goal has proven difficult to achieve, with a waiting list of over 100,000 people. While the majority of applicants apply for a residential plot and a housing loan to build a single-family home, a small number of candidates apply for the apartment unit’s alternative.

The government's capacity to reduce housing demand hinges on its ability to persuade …
