The purpose of this master’s project thesis is to explore and implement the necessary professional museum practices to care for and preserve the private Vietnam War-era slide collection of Kenneth L. Swain Jr., an Air Force veteran. Through museum practices presented by leading museum professionals, the slide collection was examined and a plan implemented for slide care and maintenance. In conjunction with the preservation of this slide collection, an exhibition was curated in honor of Swain’s unique photo-documentary slide collection.

Sustainable development efforts frequently focus on understanding and promoting the factors that influence health and wellbeing. Urban environments have received attention in recent years as spaces which can increase psychological distress. Despite hypothesized reports of urban environments being less conducive to good mental health then natural environments, few studies have investigated the effects of urban form characteristics (size, density, nuisances, transportation, and housing characteristics) and mental health measures at the city level. Using 2014 data from the 500 largest cities in the United States, this thesis evaluates the relationship between urban form and aggregate self-report scores of poor mental health. …

The overall concept for this outdoor concrete shell structure, located in Furstliche Park in Inzigkofen, Germany, is derived from an abstracted ginkgo leaf. Drawing on inspiration from a poem about the two parts of the ginkgo leaf becoming one, we took the approach of combining both the natural and built environment into one cohesive piece. To connect the two, it was imperative that we place the shell on the site as to have the smallest impact. Learning environment research has typically focused on factors other than the physical environment (e.g., student/teacher relationships, organizational structure). This study investigated the relationship between the physical classroom environment and entry-level undergraduate statistics students’ (N = 844) academic beliefs and performance. Students were taught in either a technology-enhanced active learning classroom or a traditional lecture hall. This study investigated how undergraduate students in an entry level statistics course a) perceived the importance of the physical learning environment, b) conveyed expectations for and experiences of active engagement within that environment, and c) self-reported their personal capability judgments. The Cully neighborhood is situated in the Northeast quadrant of Portland, Oregon. It is 2.75 square mile plot of land and home to roughly 13,000 people. In addition to being one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Portland, it is the most densely populated, with the smallest amount of parkland per capita. Over the last two decades, home value has increased 203% in Cully, compared to a 90% citywide increase. เดิมทีนิยมใช้ไม้ทำโครงหลังคาเนื่องจากมีกลสมบัติกำลังรับแรงดัดได้ดี แต่ปัจจุบันไม้มีราคาสูงและไม่ทนทาน จึงใช้เหล็กรูปพรรณแทน แต่เหล็กรูปพรรณมีกลสมบัติรับแรงดัดน้อยกว่าไม้เมื่อเปรียบเทียบด้วยน้ำหนักของวัสดุ จึงจำเป็นต้องเพิ่มค้ำยัน เพื่อให้สามารถใช้เหล็กรูปพรรณที่มีหน้าตัดเล็กลงและส่งผลให้โครงหลังคามีน้ำหนักเบาลงได้ อีกทั้งเหล็กรูปพรรณเกิดสนิมได้ง่าย จึงใช้เหล็กชุบกัลวาไนซ์ที่กันสนิมได้แทน อีกทั้งน้ำหนักเบา ราคาถูก และยังรับแรงดึงและแรงอัดได้มากกว่าจึงทำให้ลดหน้าตัดชิ้นส่วนลงได้ แต่ต้องเปลี่ยนรูปแบบโครงหลังคาเป็นโครงถักเพราะเหล็กชุบกัลวาไนซ์รับแรงดัดได้น้อย เหล็กชุบกัลวาไนซ์จะผลิตจากโรงงานเป็นแผ่นเรียบและม้วนกับแกนเหล็ก สำหรับส่งไปตัดและพับตามรูปแบบที่อีกโรงงานหนึ่ง จากนั้นจะขนส่งชิ้นส่วนเหล็กชุบกัลวาไนซ์ไปยังสถานที่ก่อสร้าง และกองเก็บรอการประกอบโครงหลังคา ในการประกอบโครงถักต้องการพื้นที่ที่เรียบสม่ำเสมอ เมื่อประกอบโครงถักแล้วเสร็จ จะใช้แรงคนยกขึ้นไปติดตั้งจนพร้อมมุงหลังคา จากกรณีศึกษาบ้านเดี่ยว พบปัญหา ที่กองเก็บชิ้นส่วนที่มีจำนวนถึง 119 ชิ้น สำหรับประกอบโครงถัก 6 โครง และยาวเท่ากับขนาดของหลังคามักกีดขวางการทำงานอื่น ทำให้ชิ้นส่วนเกิดกระทบกระแทกและได้รับความเสียหาย อีกทั้งปัจจุบันต้องใช้พื้นที่ถนนเป็นที่ประกอบโครงถัก จึงมักมีปัญหาเนื่องจากถนนเป็นงานลำดับท้ายของโครงการ จึงเสนอแนะให้ใช้โครงถักที่ประกอบจากสถานที่อื่น เป็นโครงถักสำเร็จรูปที่มีความยาวสอดคล้องกับข้อกำหนดการขนส่ง โดยเสนอโครงถักสำเร็จรูป 3 รูปแบบ ได้แก่แบ่งความยาวของโครงถักเดิม 6 โครง ออกเป็นสองส่วน นำไปติดตั้งในลักษณะวางขนานกันเช่นเคย ซึ่งประกอบจากโครงถัก 12 โครง จำนวน 119 ชิ้น อีกรูปแบบหนึ่งแบ่งโครงถักเป็นสองส่วน แต่ติดตั้งในลักษณะวางขนานกันเป็นฟันปลา โดยต้องเพิ่มชิ้นส่วนขึ้นเล็กน้อยสำหรับโครงถัก 12 โครง จำนวน 151 ชิ้น รูปแบบสุดท้ายเปลี่ยนรูปแบบโครงถักใหม่ โดยติดตั้งตามแนวตะเข้สันของหลังคา ซึ่งใช้ชิ้นส่วนสำหรับประกอบเป็นโครงถัก 8 โครง จำนวน 106 ชิ้น จะเห็นได้ว่า การประกอบโครงถักเหล็กชุบกัลวาไนซ์สามารถกระทำได้ที่โรงงาน และขนส่งไปยังสถานที่ก่อสร้างได้ โดยทั้งคงรูปแบบโครงถักเดิม หรือเพิ่มชิ้นส่วนขึ้นเล็กน้อย รวมทั้งออกแบบโครงถักเป็นโครงหลังคาสำเร็จรูปรูปแบบอื่น

กระบวนการ และปัญหาในการย้ายหอผู้ป่วย และห้องผ่าตัด : กรณีศึกษาอาคารภูมิสิริมังคลานุสรณ์ โรงพยาบาลจุฬาลงกรณ์ สภากาชาดไทย, ชญานิน โกศล

จากยุทธศาสตร์การพัฒนาประเทศไทยให้เป็นศูนย์กลางสุขภาพนานาชาติ ส่งผลให้มีการปรับปรุงและพัฒนาโรงพยาบาลในประเทศไทยให้มีความทันสมัยได้มาตรฐานในระดับสากล เช่นเดียวกันกับโรงพยาบาลจุฬาลงกรณ์ สภากาชาดไทย หนึ่งในโรงพยาบาลชั้นนำของประเทศที่ได้สร้างอาคารภูมิสิริมังคลานุสรณ์ขึ้นเพื่อตอบสนองการให้บริการ โดยอาคารดังกล่าวมีการย้ายเข้าของหอผู้ป่วย และห้องผ่าตัดจากนอกอาคารเข้าสู่ภายในอาคาร นอกจากนี้ยังมีการปรับปรุงอาคารระหว่างการใช้งานส่งผลให้มีการโยกย้ายหอผู้ป่วย และห้องผ่าตัดไปสู่พื้นที่ชั่วคราวขณะทำการปรับปรุง จึงได้ทำการศึกษาขั้นตอน และปัญหาในการย้ายหอผู้ป่วย และห้องผ่าตัดทั้ง 4 กลุ่ม ได้แก่ กลุ่มกรณีย้ายหอผู้ป่วยภายในอาคาร กลุ่มกรณีย้ายหอผู้ป่วยจากภายนอกอาคาร กรณีย้ายห้องผ่าตัดภายในอาคาร กรณีย้ายห้องผ่าตัดจากภายนอกอาคาร โดยการสังเกต บันทึกข้อมูลในเหตุการณ์ และสอบถามผู้เกี่ยวข้องกับการย้ายหอผู้ป่วย จากนั้นนำข้อมูลมาวิเคราะห์ สรุปและอภิปรายผล จากการศึกษาพบว่า เมื่อวิเคราะห์ตามกิจกรรมที่ปฏิบัติสามารถแบ่งขั้นตอนการย้ายหอผู้ป่วยได้เป็น 5 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ ขั้นตอนการวางแผน ขั้นตอนการย้ายของ ขั้นตอนการเตรียมผู้ป่วย ขั้นตอนการย้ายผู้ป่วย และขั้นตอนการตรวจสอบและส่งคืนพื้นที่ ในขณะที่การย้ายห้องผ่าตัดมี 3 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ ขั้นตอนการวางแผน ขั้นตอนการย้ายของ และขั้นตอนการตรวจสอบและส่งคืนพื้นที่ แต่การย้ายห้องคลอด และห้องผ่าตัดคลอดมีการปฏิบัติ 5 ขั้นตอนเช่นเดียวกับการย้ายหอผู้ป่วย ทั้งนี้แต่ละกิจกรรมในขั้นตอนจะมีทั้งกิจกรรมที่ปฏิบัติเช่นเดียวกัน และกิจกรรมที่ปฏิบัติต่างกัน รวมถึงการเตรียมเครื่องมือในการย้ายของ และย้ายผู้ป่วยก็มีความแตกต่างกัน ขึ้นอยู่กับปัจจัยที่ต้องคำนึงถึง นอกจากนี้เมื่อวิเคราะห์จากช่วงเวลาในการปฏิบัติงาน พบว่าช่วงเวลาที่ดีที่สุดในการย้ายหอผู้ป่วยคือ ช่วงเช้า และเมื่อวิเคราะห์จากระยะเวลาการย้ายของ พบว่าห้องคลอดและผ่าตัดคลอดจะใช้เวลามากกว่าหน่วยงานอื่น ๆ ส่วนการย้ายหอผู้ป่วยวิกฤตจากภายนอกอาคารจะใช้เวลามากกว่าการย้ายหอผู้ป่วยอื่น ๆ นอกจากนี้ในการศึกษาปัญหาที่พบในขั้นตอนการย้ายของ และขั้นตอนการย้ายผู้ป่วย พบว่ามีปัญหาทั้งหมด 7 ลักษณะ ได้แก่ การขนย้ายล่าช้า การขนย้ายหยุดชะงัก ของเสียหาย ผู้ใช้อาคารไม่สะดวก ปิดงานไม่ได้ หน่วยงานเปิดให้บริการได้ไม่สมบูรณ์ และเกิดความเสี่ยงต่อผู้ป่วย เป็นผลมาจาก 7 สาเหตุ ได้แก่ การจัดการ การประสานงาน การควบคุมงาน การวางแผน อุบัติเหตุ คุณภาพบุคคลากร ลักษณะทางกายภาพอาคาร และอาการผู้ป่วย จากการศึกษาและวิเคราะห์ผล สรุปได้ว่าการย้ายหอผู้ป่วย และห้องผ่าตัดมีขั้นตอนในการย้ายที่แตกต่างกัน ซึ่งเมื่อมีการย้ายหอผู้ป่วย และห้องผ่าตัด ปัจจัยที่ต้องคำนึงถึงในการวางแผนการย้าย และการเตรียมเครื่องมือ ได้แก่ ประเภทหน่วยงานตามลักษณะการให้บริการลักษณะการย้ายแบ่งตามในอาคารและนอกอาคาร อาการผู้ป่วย พื้นที่ต้นทางเนื่องจากเส้นทางในการย้าย ความพร้อมของพื้นที่ จำนวนบุคคลากร จำนวนรถพยาบาล ความพร้อมของผู้ป่วย จำนวนเครื่องมือแพทย์ที่ใช้ในการย้ายผู้ป่วย จำนวนผู้ป่วยหนัก …

ในปัจจุบันมีความเข้าใจอย่างกว้างขวางว่า ในการอนุรักษ์สถาปัตยกรรมจำเป็นต้องเข้าใจสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบแหล่งมรดกวัฒนธรรม (setting) มากกว่าการพิจารณาตัวอาคารแต่เพียงอย่างเดียว อีกทั้งโครงสร้างมรดกวัฒนธรรมประกอบจากพื้นที่ที่มีความหลากหลายและมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างเป็นพลวัต รวมถึงความสัมพันธ์ของสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบแหล่งมรดกวัฒนธรรม สิ่งต่าง ๆ เหล่านี้ สามารถเป็นที่มาของการตระหนักถึงคุณค่าของเรื่องราวที่เกิดขึ้นบนสภาพแวดล้อม เพื่อการนำเสนอ (presentation) และการสื่อความหมาย (interpretation) ของพื้นที่แหล่งมรดกวัฒนธรรมได้ โดยวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) ถือเป็นกรณีศึกษาที่สำคัญในเรื่องการศึกษาสภาพแวดล้อม เนื่องจากเป็นพื้นที่ที่มีการตั้งถิ่นฐานของผู้คนมายาวนานกว่า 250 ปี ประกอบกับบันทึกและเอกสารต่าง ๆ ที่ค้นพบ ช่วยให้เข้าใจสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบของพื้นที่ได้อย่างดี การวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษาและวิเคราะห์หลักฐานชั้นต้นต่าง ๆ ของวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) อันประกอบด้วย แผนที่เก่า ภาพถ่ายในอดีต เรื่องราวของผู้คนที่มีการบันทึกไว้ และงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง ผู้วิจัยนำหลักฐานเหล่านี้มาใช้ในการวิเคราะห์สภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) เพื่อนำเสนอเรื่องราวที่มีคุณค่าของสภาพแวดล้อม และปัจจัยที่ส่งเสริมให้เกิดคุณค่าของสภาพแวดล้อมที่เคยดำรงอยู่ในอดีต มาใช้ในการนำเสนอและการสื่อความหมาย จากการศึกษา ผู้วิจัยค้นพบว่าวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) มีเรื่องราวที่มีคุณค่าและควรได้รับการสื่อความหมายที่จะช่วยให้เข้าใจถึงสภาพแวดล้อมวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) ตลอดเวลากว่า 250 ปี ได้อย่างดีจำนวน 5 เรื่องอันประกอบด้วย บ้านสำโรง ค่ายแม่พระลูกประคำ Notre Dame du Rosaire บุ่งกุ่ยและกุหลาบ และ กาลหว่าร์และวัดสาขา สภาพแวดล้อมเกิดขึ้นจากองค์ประกอบต่าง ๆ ทั้งที่มองเห็นได้และมองเห็นไม่ได้ ซึ่งมีความสัมพันธ์กันเกิดเป็นสภาพแวดล้อมขึ้นโดยมีอาคารโบสถ์วัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) เป็นอนุสรณ์สถานที่บอกเล่าเรื่องราวความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้คนที่ดำรงอยู่ในสภาพแวดล้อมได้อย่างสมบูรณ์ และส่วนท้ายงานวิจัย ผู้วิจัยเสนอแนวทางในการนำเสนอและสื่อความหมายสภาพแวดล้อมออกเป็น 2 ด้าน คือ ด้านกายภาพ และด้านสังคม และข้อพิจารณาแนวทางในการสื่อความหมายผ่านแก่นเรือง ซึ่งจะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการตระหนักถึงคุณค่าของประวัติศาสตร์และสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบวัดแม่พระลูกประคำ (กาลหว่าร์) ต่อไปในอนาคต
