This thesis examines the ways in which Potosí's two most influential colonial artists represented the urban dynamics of race, class and labor in their depictions of the Andean 'City of Silver' during the eighteenth century, when silver production, profits and population were dramatically declining.

Living, working, and collaborating in the same integrated environment engenders attachment to and pride in that place, resulting in the enrichment of both the quality of one's place of living and place of work. As a demonstration of this principle, the thesis proposes an intervention prototype designed to consolidate and preserve the essence of the art districts by preventing emerging artists' displacement. This new live/work/collaborate typology strives to aggregate positive outcomes from different approaches to similar uses. While unauthorized graffiti has been historically associated with crime, vandalism, and property damage, the visual incursions of corporate advertisers on urban landscapes have been mostly exempt from criminal characterization– by purchasing private and public spaces for cash, upfront. The persistent transfer of capital to the private sector, and by extension commercialization of public spaces and services, invades individual privacy by intensifying exposure to relentless, unsolicited advertisement. Guerrilla Art thus emerges as a force challenging the favoritism of consumer culture vis-à -vis the agency of ordinary citizens to utilize the urban fabric as a medium for expression and public discourse. This brochure lists art purchased through the building fund or donated to the Weitz CEC. The core collection was acquired through a competitive process open to UNO faculty, staff, students, and local area artists. A committee comprised of art and design professionals and university volunteers selected works that represent both the individual artist’s interpretation of the Weitz CEC vision and the collective talent of Omaha’s vibrant visual arts community.

More is the Same is the result of my examination of the perception of space in relation to architecture and landscape. By embracing modern concepts of the grid, formalism and design, this compilation of personal experiences and memories, manifests as post-minimal sculptures. However, when considering the hierarchy of importance in my work this involves pure visual perception over any specific narrative. The final product is an exhibition which elicits a perceptual experience for its viewer.
