The University of Massachusetts Amherst, the Commonwealth’s flagship campus, is home to several Brutalist buildings. Similar to other buildings of this genre, they have gone unrecognized for their importance to the campus and their prominent architectural significance. Additionally, due to the ravages of close to 50 years of exposure coupled with limited maintenance and, in some instances, neglect they are now at a point where restorative maintenance is critical in ensuring their future contribution to the campus.

The objective of my senior project is to find a solution for the growing amount of improperly disposed cigarette butts on our planet. To accomplish this, I created and tested concrete cylinders mixed with different amounts of used cigarettes. It is my goal that we will be able to recycle cigarette butts and incorporate them into our everyday concrete use. By adding cigarettes to our mixes, I also understand their will be concerns with its potential strength. Este estudio tiene el propósito de determinar los aportes del cemento a la arquitectura republicana en un período de tiempo comprendido entre 1910-1932, en Bogotá, Colombia. Para esta época se adelantaban procesos de industrialización en la capital del país y el cemento fue novedoso aportando a la evolución técnica, ornamental y funcional de la arquitectura.
