This Dissertation examines both Central Statistics Office (CSO) published and unpublished demographic evidence from the 2011 and previous censuses, so as to evaluate the 2002 National Spatial Strategy’s (NSS) selection of Gateways and Hub settlements. On its own, population is an incomplete measure of size. However, when used with emerging employment data, a robust methodological time-dynamic centrality model may be constructed based on population and Daytime Working Population (DWP) behaviour and other related and relevant investigations. Decision-making is a key aspect of contract administration, and includes duties such as certification. This process requires the contract administrator to exercise judgement on various matters arising from the performance of the contract. In theRepublicofIreland, the principle forms of main contract are the Royal Institution of Architects in Ireland (RIAI) ‘Yellow Form’ for private sector work and the Government Construction Contracts Committee (GCCC) Public Works Contract for public sector contracts. Abstract ̶ This paper demonstrates the capabilities of BIM (Building Information Modeling) in leveraging Whole Life Cycle Cost (WLCC) data requirements to perform WLCC calculations and produce WLLC estimates. The research determines the extent to which WLCC data, such as time, interest rates, escalation rates and real costs can be attached to parametric BIM data to be used effectively to create speedier and more accurate real-time WLLC analysis. This study investigates the appropriateness of internally insulating solid walls to the Passivhaus standard. A number of variables are assessed using numerical hygrothermal simulation (under EN 15026) to check (1) associated risk of mould growth on original substrate and (2) if they result in a greater likelihood of timber decay at built-in joist ends. While air and vapour control layers (AVCLs) perform well regarding mould risk in low absorption walls, the results question their appropriateness where joist ends are built-in: when AVCLs are used, moisture levels at joist ends can potentially rise above critical thresholds, even in low absorption walls. …

Recent anecdotal evidence has shown that property boundary disputes have been on the increase over the past number of years (Prendergast 2008 and 2011). This paper will highlight results from a questionnaire to Irish property professionals in an effort to understand what they have been dealing with over the past number of years, including the impact of the PRAi Digital Mapping Project on their work, the most common type of dispute they deal with, the length of time they devote to property boundary disputes in the past 10 years and the number of Boundary Surveys conducted between 2007 – 2011.

Richard J. Neutra’s seminal model schools are generally disregarded in critical literature, yet the underlying preoccupations were significant. Based on exploration of contemporary themes in medicine, education and architecture, one favoured preoccupation of Neutra’s is nature. He concludes that its potency is manifold, suggesting that exposing children to nature in an experiential way could contribute to their health, well-being and education. His model school design became the idea manifest, placing particular responsibilities on the form to achieve these ideals. Based on evidence, numerous advisory boards and scholars insist engineering education must change (NSB, 2007; McKenna, Froyd, King, Litzinger, & Seymour, 2011) and that hands-on, inquiry-driven, project-based learning pedagogies can enhance STEM education (Boyer & Mitgang, 1996). These pedagogies have formed the core of architectural education since the Renaissance and have been in continuous use since that time. As such, engineering educators can benefit from observing how architecture students learn and understanding how they are taught. Likewise, architecture can benefit from applying the group-based learning strategies employed by engineering teachers who use studentcentered, project-based pedagogies. Trans-disciplinary approaches hold particular merit.
