Cruser Place Green Streets Plan, Neal Friedman
Cruser Place Green Streets Plan, Neal Friedman
Master of Urban and Regional Planning Capstone Projects
Combining green and complete street design techniques leads to multiple environmental, social and economic benefits that often enhance each other's effectiveness. In urban areas confronting increased pressures of sea level rise, green streets, which incorporate landscaped features or vegetative areas to manage stormwater within the right of way, can be crucial pieces of pedestrian oriented urban design and multimodal planning frameworks that consider and plan for diverse, complementary transportation options. This plan works with the Colonial Place and Riverview Civic League as well as the Norfolk Preservation Collective to come up with green street design recommendations in order to strengthen …
Conflicts In Stewardship: A Survey Of Historic Preservation Easement Practice, Jonathan Stark-Sachs
Conflicts In Stewardship: A Survey Of Historic Preservation Easement Practice, Jonathan Stark-Sachs
Historic Preservation Theses
Historic Preservation Easements are a unique tool for preserving historic resources, with nonprofits holding easements having unique oversight over the resource. A dispute will arise between the property owner and easement holder if the easement's terms are violated, testing the effectiveness of the easement program. There is a lack of information regarding how the practices of non-profit easement holders inform the effective resolution of disputes and what these organization's experiences have been in addressing violations. This study surveyed easement managers around the United States to better understand how their organizations prepare for and respond to easement violations. It further collected …

Library Research Scholars Program 2017-2018
This project consists of an ArcGIS Story Map of Miami-Dade County. Each “then” and “now” photo set will be marked with an icon on the map. The side-bar will show viewers two photos of the same physical space. These photos can be placed side-by-side. These spaces will mostly be buildings, but may also focus on the landscape through maps and how this has changed over time. The “then” photos come primarily from the UM Library’s Special Collections and the Florida State Archives website, floridamemory.com. The “now” photos are ones that I’ve taken myself. A paragraph or two of contextual/background information …

Community and Regional Planning Program: Theses and Student Projects
Across the nation, thousands of historic properties are preserved, protected, and visited each year. These historic properties and historic preservation programs work to highlight historically significant places, by not only recognizing the past, but also by working to protect the significant sites into the future so they will continue to serve as reminders and examples of the historical events that have made it notable. Currently, the Historic Preservation Program in Lincoln, Nebraska recognizes over 1,400 properties as Local Landmark Sites or Districts within Lancaster County. Through this locally organized program, these properties receive a greater level of protection and financial …

Architecture Masters of Science Program: Theses
The idea of adapting old buildings for emerging purposes has been a regular strategy to sustain architectural resources since the medieval period or even earlier. However, the concept of adaptive reuse has only been gaining prevalence since the nineteenth-century when there was an increase in awareness of historic preservation. At this point, instead of sustaining architectural resources in both financial and functional terms, adaptive reuse was re-introduced and reapplied as one of the philosophical treatments of historic preservation.
As adaptive reuse is becoming a mature philosophical treatment of historic preservation, a great deal of critical thought and professional theory is …

There is an immense variety of privately owned businesses. They will be stakeholders because their businesses are located there, but they will also be assets in themselves in drawing people to the area. There is basically everything anyone could possible want or need in this area. There are two gas stations, a Family Dollar, a liquor store, a few sit down restaurants, numerous places where one can get a quick bite to eat, a frame shop, a clothing store, a pawn shop, a store with fresh produce (which is hard to find in urban areas), a store that sells sports …

The metal railings should also be removed and replaced with railings that meet current building code with a proper height.
