Many modern glass and window products are based on metal-dielectric coatings, which can control properties such as thermal emissivity, heat gain, colour, and transparency. These can also enable solar energy harvesting through PV integration, if the glazing structure is purpose-designed, to include luminescent materials and special microstructures. Recently, significant progress has been demonstrated in building integrated transparent solar windows, which are expected to add momentum towards the development of smart cities. We report on the development of several di#11;erent thin-film functional material systems
prepared by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering at Edith Cowan University nanofabrication
labs. While focusing on the RF sputtering process optimizations for new or the previously
underexplored material compositions and multilayer structures, we disclose several unforeseen
material properties and behaviours. Among these are an unconventional magnetic hysteresis loop
with an intermediate saturation state observed in garnet trilayers, and an ultrasensitive magnetic
switching behaviour in garnet-oxide composites (GOC).We also report on the unusually high thermal
exposure stability observed in some nanoengineered metal–dielectric multilayers. We communicate

We report on the field testing datasets and performance evaluation results obtained
from a commercial property-based visually-clear solar window installation site in Perth-Australia.
This installation was fitted into a refurbished shopping center entrance porch and showcases the
potential of glass curtain wall-based solar energy harvesting in built environments. In particular,
we focus on photovoltaic (PV) performance characteristics such as the electric power output, specific
yield, day-to-day consistency of peak output power, and the amounts of energy generated and stored
daily. The dependencies of the generated electric power and stored energy on multiple environmental
and geometric parameters are also studied. An …

On July 14, 2019, race-linked tweets, filled with racially charged negative rhetoric, began to emerge for a country, the United States, to grapple once more with its past, present, and future.  The tweets were directed toward four duly elected women of color in Congress.  In this light, the phenomenon of racism, yet again, was abruptly made more overt, rather than covert.  Indeed, it is fair to say that the phenomenon of racism is often an "unconscious or veiled phenomenon" for some.

Until 2013, when a new master plan for the city was approved, Kigali had very few urban regulations in place. Incremental constructions, usually associated with informal urbanization, were the norm rather than the exception. Building energy simulation is of considerable interest and benefit for architects, engineers, and urban planners. Only recently has it become possible to develop integrated energy models for clusters of buildings in urban areas. Simulating energy consumption of the built environment on a relatively large scale (e.g., such as a neighborhood) will be necessary to obtain more reliable results, since building energy parameters are influenced by characteristics of the nearby environment. Communities are increasingly affected by excessive heat. The likelihood of extreme heat events is predicted to increase in the Midwest region of the United States. By mid-century (2036–2065), one year out of 10 is projected to have a 5-day period that is 13°F warmer than a comparable earlier period (1976–2005). The frequency of high humidity/dew point days (“extra moist tropical air mass days,” MT++ synoptic climate classification system) has also increased significantly during a similar period (1975–2010) and between 2010 and 2014 included 8 of 26 heat events.
