Steel To Concrete Connections, Dylan Thompson
Steel To Concrete Connections, Dylan Thompson
Architectural Engineering
This project consists of the design, installation, and implications of steel beam to concrete wall connections. A new, modern single family home in Beverly Hills was the site of the connections. Calculations and details of gravity and drag beams were carried out, communication with the steel fabricator shop and the architect were performed, and a subsequent site visit to view construction methods was completed. Takeaways from the project were the economics of the connections designed, communication within separate disciplines on the site, and visualization of designed elements in the real-world.

Blue Mountain Residence, Marin Kira Govett
Architectural Engineering
The Blue Mountain Residence is a new, single family residence located in Jefferson County, Colorado, a suburb of Denver. It is located close to the front range at an elevation of 7,600 ft. The owner and architect of the residence is Cherie Goff of HMH Architecture in Boulder, Colorado. The house is mostly of wood construction with elements of steel and concrete. The structural project team includes a Cal Poly architectural engineering student and professional engineers in DLK Engineering in Lafayette, CO. This report contains the complete project description, structural design calculations, and stamped structural construction drawings. The report examines …
Steel Test Set-Up For Non-Ductile Concrete Shear Walls, Colin S. Ridgley
Steel Test Set-Up For Non-Ductile Concrete Shear Walls, Colin S. Ridgley
Architectural Engineering
The purpose of this project was to provide a robust test set-up for the thesis work being conducted by graduate students, Jerry Luong & Rory de Sevilla. Their research aims to evaluate the feasibility of using fiber-reinforced polymer wraps and splay anchors to retrofit non-ductile concrete shear walls through a series of tests on reinforced concrete walls.
Four key constraints governed the design of the test set-up. First, the wall can be cyclically, laterally loaded to develop data for comparison with theoretical analysis methods. Second, the wall can be axially loaded to simulate interaction effects and prevent a sliding failure …
