Post-Industrial sites are often un-utilized and deserted places that are an aesthetic, social, ecological, and physical hindrance to the realm of the cities in which they lie, however they possess enormous potential. What begins as a study of temporalities in St. Louis' architecture condenses first into a presentation of the relationships within the city which reveal conflations of different scales, durations, and structures of time as a synthesized, annotated drawing. The study then focuses on four projective drawings exploring the production of diachronic time in a megastructure connected into St. Louis. The study reveals opportunities for persistence in plan and section of the city framework even as buildings within are built and torn down. This thesis focuses on the architectural work of Renaissance master Michelangelo Buonarroti, who, perhaps, is better known for his painting and sculpture than for his architecture. Nevertheless, his buildings are revered by architectural historians, such as James Ackerman, for their mimicry of bodily motion and emotion. Under the influence of Renaissance humanism, it was not uncommon for architects to validate their designs by reference to the human body, for example, basing the dimensions of a basilica on ideal bodily proportions. Landscape architecture is an emerging practice in the developing world. It is not, however, an established and well known profession. Developing countries, such as those in Sub-Saharan Africa, could benefit from the services that landscape architects provide for society and the built environment. This research addresses where the profession of landscape architecture currently is in Sub-Saharan Africa and speculates where it could go in the future. This study defines a new approach to the transformation of unmaintained land within cities, or urban shadow space. Although urban shadow space can offer a place of free expression for the community and spontaneous vegetative growth within a city, it is often dismissed as blighted land by public authority. This study maximizes existing opportunities of these spaces, illuminating a realm of the city that is currently dark to the public eye.
