Old buildings when coupled with -- or challenged by -- contemporary form produce new visual and spatial compositions, fundamental in developing more investigative methods of preservation that enrich architectural identity. Since the 1960s and the formation of the National Register of Historical Places, American ideas regarding antiquity have been idly manifested in historic preservation, where old buildings are forcefully cemented in their original state to reflect their ‘peak’ condition. Throughout tea's history, rituals have developed ranging from strictly obeying principles in Japanese tea ceremonies to loosely interpreting principles of tea such as drinking a bottle of iced tea in America. Locating a program to explore the historic, cultural, and political connotations of Boston, in its Inner Harbor, tea can be culturally transformed through a process of an interactive museum in conjunction with the headquarters for a tea importing company, which will explore cultural and ritual issues of tea. This exploration will further enhance these transformations of cultures and rituals that exist with the ever changing life of tea.

The exhibition opened in conjunction with the international conference "The Future of Jewish Monuments," organized by the Jewish Heritage Council of the World Monuments Fund. The exhibition focused on the needs of historic sites in Eastern Europe, North Africa, the united States and elsewhere, and made the case for international support.
