Dissolving Realities: An Endless Domestic Landscape, Hanzang Lai, Phang Lim

Architecture Senior Theses

This thesis explores how the exponential growth in communication technology is changing the way we interact with the tangible and intangible spaces. The invasion of the public into the private, the collective into the domestic, the work into the leisure, and the ability to be constantly connected wirelessly have caused a dissolution of the physical domestic space. The domestic space has lost its value of privacy and intimacy and the boundary between the binaries will be no more. The gap between “the control” and “controlled” has widened and productive workers will be oppressed to be even more productive under the …

Architecture Senior Theses

As humans, we see, view, and understand spaces and the representation of space via images. It is natural for humans to have a preconceived notion of existing conditions based on expectation, mental record, and previous experience. This thesis explores the dimensional potential in architecture of the mis-representation of space through illusory, mischievous and precocious means. This is an architecture that questions one’s perspective, perception and placement.

This intentional and productive miscommunication of architecture happens through the creation of the drawing and model simultaneously with strategic but not comprehensive alignments to create an expected image in the mind of the viewer …

A funhouse, a building equipped with trick mirrors, shifting floors, and other devices designed to scare or amuse people as they walk through is the program of choice. A Flight Into Technology: An Investigation Of Building And Telecommunication Technology, Bruce A. T. Siska

Architecture Senior Theses

"A new physical infrastructure to support activities based on communications and the transmission of information is being developed. Part of this infrastructure includes the construction of "intelligent" buildings that are seen to play as important a role in improving of office workers as automation has played on the shop floor of manufacturing industry. The term "intelligent" is used to describe buildings which provide an adaptive environment of high quality, energy efficiency, security and safety, permitting optimized information flows - both internally and externally - so that its functionality is largely independent of location."
