A Leprosy Research Center In India, Vinoobhai Baboobhai Amin

Architecture Master Theses

With an estimated number of about 2.2 million cases in India, leprosy is one of our (Indian) important public health problems. With great regret, we have to accept the fact that the present knowledge of leprosy by our people is very, very meager.

In fact, the facilities for leprosy treatment and research provided by the Government of India are very limited. Moreover, few Indian architects have contributed their services towards the problem of designing an adequate leprosy campus.

I have prepared this thesis in the hope that it will contribute some pragmatic design concepts of rehabilitation programs for lepers, concerning …

New Towns: A Peek At 1984 In Britian, Ken Parker

Smolski Texts

What's the world, and specifically the United States, coming to in the matter of housing and community life?

At least a partial answer, maybe even a portent of 1984, may lie in a municipality concept described recently by Chester E. Smolski, associate professor of geography at Rhode Island College.

New town, the name generally given to the concept, is familiar, but to most people, the details are vague. Professor Smoslki recieved a grant from the National Science Foundation in 1968 to go to England for a year to study new towns.

This study centers on one aspect of the larger problem. It is concerned first with the organization of the construction industry and the effect: this organization has had on the development of industrialized housing. Secondly, the study focuses on a specific aspect of the construction industry that has significantly affected the growth …

The Neighborhood As A Focus For Development, Bob Neil Scher May 1974

The Neighborhood As A Focus For Development, Bob Neil Scher

Architecture Master Theses

One of the purposes of urban design is an understanding, a knowledge of the urban environment. The purpose of this investigation, a thesis is urban design, was to discover strong, recurrent patterns within the city relevant to urban design as a discipline. It was found that such patterns did exist, in the form of population-migration patterns.

A theory of urban development/redevelopment was constructed as an enhancement of the already existent social pattern, in an attempt to enrich the urban experience within the structure of an average large metropolitan agglomeration.
