An Investigation Of Creativity In The Practicing Field Of Architecture:A Case Study Of Seven Albuquerque Architects., Robert Jenner Philips Dec 1974

An Investigation Of Creativity In The Practicing Field Of Architecture:A Case Study Of Seven Albuquerque Architects., Robert Jenner Philips

Architecture and Planning ETDs

One of architecture's most cherished foundations is the notion of creativity. If the architect is to be charged with the responsibility of the "innovator" and an "agent of change," then much of his work will revolve around being able to exercise his creativity. There appear to be some discrepancies between what architecture is all about in literature and the classroom vis-a-vis in actual practice. The thrust of this thesis is directed to the apparent discrepancy between architectural training and practice. A case study method has been chosen for this investigation. Seven architects were chosen to be interviewed. With five areas …

An Examination Of Mud Brick Architectural Forms In Iran With Experimental Applications In The Southwestern United States., Paul Graham Mchenry Jr Dec 1974

An Examination Of Mud Brick Architectural Forms In Iran With Experimental Applications In The Southwestern United States., Paul Graham Mchenry Jr

Architecture and Planning ETDs

Mud, in a variety of forms, is the oldest and most widely used building material in the world. Its uses in various ways, and the logical development of extremely sophisticated architectural forms occurred independently in many parts of the world. The complexity of the forms that were developed were dependent on the length of time the material was in use, and the local environment which limited possibilities and created the necessity for particular uses. As social and intellectual patterns become more complex, with the attendant prosperity, accumulation of wealth, ostentation, and other aspects of a more complex social order, the …

An Enlightening View Of Design Appointed In Georg Simmel's Philosophy Of Life, Syh-Hai Liang Aug 1974

An Enlightening View Of Design Appointed In Georg Simmel's Philosophy Of Life, Syh-Hai Liang

Architecture and Planning ETDs

This study is concerned with the fundamental issues in architecture. The proposed perspective is visualized from a philosophical point of view which is central in the thoughts of Georg Simmel, a German sociologist and philosopher. Intrinsically speaking, architecture belongs to a kind of II form-giving" activity. As such, architeicture brings about physical intermediaries to facilitate the realization of human purposes in other aspects of culture.

The argument is introduced by reconciling “form" and

''function” with each other. In essence, the two notions refer to one entity; Wright asserts: "form and function are one." It is contended that the primary concern …

A Survey Of Selected Environmental Groups Active In New Mexico And The Southwest, Spring 1974, May Louise Holbrook Jul 1974

A Survey Of Selected Environmental Groups Active In New Mexico And The Southwest, Spring 1974, May Louise Holbrook

Architecture and Planning ETDs

The operations of seven environmental groups which are currently active in New Mexico and Colorado are discussed, including their history, successes, and failures. Structure, financial support, and individual priorities are described in detail, as well as response to social and racial issues. A common thread in the testimony of surveyed executives has been the declaration of need for dedicated personnel to broaden the activities of the organizations. Comparisons and contrasts in the groups' operations are pointed out for those who seek environmental information and data and for those who may be interested in working with such groups.

A Feasibility Study For Apartments, Roger Easley Jun 1974

A Feasibility Study For Apartments, Roger Easley

Architecture and Planning ETDs

This study seeks to provide a method which can be used to obtain the information necessary for the design of apartments within the limitations imposed by prevailing market conditions, financial considerations and investor needs. This is accomplished by presenting first, a method of market analysis designed to determine if a market exists in a given locality and delineating specifics about that market which would affect the design. A method is also developed for translating the market conditions into a form which wold indicate whether or not a proposed apartment project is economically feasible and what its probable value would be …
