Energy Analysis Of Cool, Medium, And Dark Roofs On Residential Buildings In The U.S., Michael A. Dunbar
Energy Analysis Of Cool, Medium, And Dark Roofs On Residential Buildings In The U.S., Michael A. Dunbar
Open Access Theses
This study reports an energy analysis of cool, medium, and dark roofs on residential buildings in the U.S. Three analyses were undertaken in this study: energy consumption, economic analysis, and an environmental analysis. The energy consumption reports the electricity and natural gas consumption of the simulations. The economic analysis uses tools such as simple payback period (SPP) and net present value (NPV) to determine the profitability of the cool roof and the medium roof. The variable change for each simulation model was the roof color. The default color was a dark roof and the results were focused on the changes …

At The Periphery Of Architectural History – Looking At Eastern Europe, Carmen Popescu
At The Periphery Of Architectural History – Looking At Eastern Europe, Carmen Popescu
Artl@s Bulletin
Long-time absent or only briefly mentioned for those examples fitting into the schemata, Eastern Europe has started to integrate in the past few years the mainstream discourse of architectural history. The reason of this inclusion is to be sought for not only in a certain globalization – both of the practice and of the academic discipline – but also in the mutations operated recently in the field of architectural historiography. However, in spite of the renewed context, Eastern Europe remains still marginal, both geographically – though globalization turned peripherality into a relative issue – and disciplinarily. The paper looks at …
Paths Of Regression And Renaissance: Comparing Urban Renewal And Revitalization Strategies In Two Midwestern Model Towns, Thomas Lee Kuipers
Paths Of Regression And Renaissance: Comparing Urban Renewal And Revitalization Strategies In Two Midwestern Model Towns, Thomas Lee Kuipers
Open Access Theses
This thesis compares and contrasts urban renewal and revitalization strategies in Gary, Indiana and Pullman, Illinois over the past century. These communities were founded under the proposed humanitarian ideals of the model town concept, which was supposed to offer ideal living and employment conditions for working class Americans. Within years of their founding each area reproduced the negative physical and social environment the model town concept was meant to protect against. After decades of neglect these areas sought different urban redevelopment plans to fix their environments. Gary city officials used traditional urban renewal tactics of slum clearance and rebuilding. These …
Learning And Becoming In Design Reviews, Lisa D. Mcnair, Marie C. Paretti, Cassandra Groen
Learning And Becoming In Design Reviews, Lisa D. Mcnair, Marie C. Paretti, Cassandra Groen
Design Thinking Research Symposium
Drawing from the prior work of McNair and Paretti (2010), this study investigates how language practices and design artifacts mediate the interactions among novice and expert designers to shape the nature of design, and specifically design learning. By analyzing data collected from two design courses in different fields, this study addresses two research questions: 1) how do language practices mediate the interactions between design mentors and design learners; and 2) how do design artifacts mediate these interactions between mentors and learners? Drawing on activity theory and discourse analysis, we use these questions to explore how students work with experts to …
