Facilities management along with health care are two important aspects in controlling the spread of infectious diseases with regard to controlling the outbreak of global COVID-19 pandemic. Energy benchmarking for buildings has become increasingly important in government policy and industry practice for energy efficiency. The questions of how energy benchmarking is currently conducted, and how it might be improved using rapidly growing quantities of self-reported data, are examined. A case study of commercial office buildings in New York City demonstrates how the rapid growth in self-reported data presents both new opportunities and challenges for energy benchmarking for buildings. The article reports on the opening of the Library Technology Center at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega to crowds of students, faculty, staff and community members on August 19, 2008. A brief overview is given on the history, graduate programs, and student population of the university. The college library needed more and better seating and public computing, library instruction spaces and collection space. These factors, combined with limited Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility and inadequate electrical, lighting and life-safety systems, created a compelling case for a library building project.

The article announces that the Spout Springs Branch of the Hall County Library System in Georgia is tentatively scheduled to open in late spring 2008. The budget for the project will total approximately $6 million and will be located in Flowery Branch at the corner of Spout Springs Road and Lake Sterling Boulevard. Pope Partners of Roswell is the architectural firm for the project. Scroggs and Grizzel Contracting Inc. of Gainesville managed the construction. Some special highlights of the facility include a large computer lab and a dedicated storytime room.

The article reports on the expansion of the Chickamauga Public Library, a branch of the Cherokee Regional Library System in Georgia. It has experienced such growth in programming and book collections that an expansion was greatly needed. The city of Chickamauga, upon the recommendation of John Culpepper, city utilities manager, allocated $100,000 of local special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) funds for the expansion and redesign of the library. Library manager Bobbie Abernathy lobbied to bring about public awareness of the expansion need and to secure local and state funding.

Spotlight On Construction: Forsyth County Public Library Unveils Expansion, Renovation

The article unveils the expansion and renovation of Forsyth County Public Library in Georgia. A 15,000-square-foot Administrative Office facility was added to the Cumming Library building which provide space for headquarters staff. The new design scheme features mahogany furnishings, traditionally styled, such as end panels and the circulation desk. The children's area doubled in size and large murals were painted on two walls. The biggest challenge of the renovation was moving the collection and shelving to lay new carpet.

Dedication program for the WKU Health & Physical Education Building which is now the Helm-Cravens Library building. The building was designed by Brinton Davis and cost $250,000 to build. The gymnasium could hold up to 5,000 people for which purpose it was used until the completion of Diddle Arena in 1963.
