Through the case study of San Francisco, CA’s Mission District, this research project addresses how community-based affordable housing development is operationalized to rehabilitate communities and neighborhoods experiencing effects of gentrification, mass displacement, and cultural dilution. My goals were to identify how the processes of building a sense of community, trust, and cohesion- rehabilitating and critical to affordable housing development efforts in the Mission District? And, how are nonprofit community development organizations engaging with these processes in collaboration with citizen and community partners? Redwood National Park and Prairie Creek State Park are coordinating a project to remove those portions of Ah Pah Road, East Ridge Road. and S-Line and B-Line spurs, located in the SE qt. sec. 3 and in sec. 11, 12Nl, all within Park boundaries. Since construction of the Highway 101 Bypass, Ah Pah Road no longer accesses the Klamath River from Prairie Creek State Park. East Ridge Road will continue as a trail to access dedicated groves and the Hope Creek-Ten Tapo Loop Trail. Descriptions of Indian sites on Humboldt Bay have not been attempted in this report. According to Loud (1918) there were 115 archaeological sites located in the Wiyot territory which roughly covered the lower Mad River, the lower Eel and fill of Humboldt Bay Approximately 70 of these sites were on or near the bay. Many of the important village sites have been lost to development. The clearings in the forest, streams, and bluffs above the tidelands were naturally chosen by white settlers just as they had been chosen by Indian people generations before.
