Cette communication décrit une méthode expérimentale pour l’estimation du coefficient d’absorption de matériaux absorbants sous un champ acoustique diffus synthétisé dans des conditions de champ libre. Des comparaisons sont réalisées entre des résultats expérimentaux obtenus via cette méthode et celle standardisée de la chambre réverbérante, ainsi qu’avec des simulations numériques basées sur la méthode des matrices de transfert. En utilisant des surfaces de matériaux inférieures à celles requises pour la méthode standardisée, les valeurs de coefficient d’absorption obtenues ne présentent pas les surestimations liées aux effets de taille de l’échantillon vues dans le cas de la mesure en chambre réverbérante. …

Un réacteur thermochimique solaire de 1 kW muni d’une structure céramique poreuse en céramique est modélisé pour simuler les transferts thermiques a l’intérieur du récepteur volumétrique. Le modèle développé a été utilisé pour prévoir le comportement thermique du réacteur en fonction des différentes conditions opératoires qui concernent le débit de gaz inerte, le flux solaire incident, la porosité, la longueur du récepteur, et la prise en compte de réactions chimiques. The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate a methodology to identify individual sources of emissions based on the measurements of mixed air samples and the emission signatures of individual materials previously determined by Proton Transfer Reaction-Mass Spectrometry (PTR-MS), an on-line analytical device. The methodology based on signal processing principles was developed by employing the method of multiple regression least squares (MRLS) and a normalization technique. Samples of nine typical building materials were tested individually and in combination, including carpet, ceiling material, gypsum board, linoleum, two paints, polyolefine, PVC and wood. The objectives of this study were to determine volatile organic compound (VOC) emission signatures of nine typical building materials by using proton transfer reaction-mass spectrometry (PTR-MS) and to explore the correlation between the PTR-MS measurements and the measurements of acceptability by human subjects. VOC emissions from each material were measured in a 50-l small-scale chamber. Chamber air was sampled by PTR-MS to determine emission signatures. Sorbent tube sampling and TD-GC/MS analysis were also performed to identify the major VOCs emitted and to compare the resulting data with the PTR-MS emission signatures. Smart growth development entails retracting the city, hence attempting to house low-income residents at new affordable housing facilities within a metropolitan area. This paper introduces the Low Income Housing Tax credit (LIHTC) as an alternative funding source for developing affordable housing projects. In this article, we present the affordable housing and smart growth elements in two selected tax credit programs in the United States. Many low-income people are trapped into paying high rental for low quality housing. It becomes impossible for them to save any down payment for purchasing a home. With the need to house 709,400 units where 38.2% is for low- and low-medium houses in the Ninth Malaysian Plan (9MP), the growing and shifting population is creating demands for new housing in some areas while decreasing demands for new and existing housing in another.
