The interior design students goal was to design a new residence hall and dining facility for the SFASU campus. The design intention was to create functional spaces that allow student collaboration and motivate social interactions, while providing features that enhance student academic success and personal development.

Quantitative and qualitative data was collected by conducting surveys regarding the current housing and dining facilities on campus. Results from the current student’s surveys and from interviews of student/staff members on campus allowed the team to create the most functional plan. This commercial building in Atlanta, Georgia, has been renovated to become a modern co-working environment for independent freelancers, contractors, and solopreneurs. Inspired by the vivid colors and community of various sea life in the coral reef, the interior was designed to enhance productivity with the latest Steelcase products while stimulating the most creative minds and greatest thinkers with bold colors, natural light, and modern finishes.

Aging starts at birth and continues throughout life. As people age, they need to continue to live a happy life. A designer’s job is to design a facility that will encourage an independent lifestyle while providing the help and community involvement aging requires. The design solution should meet the aging population’s desire to age in place. An assisted living facility allows older adults to live independently while being surrounded by a support group and events that promote an active lifestyle which is conducive to physical and mental wellbeing.
