In Saitama, Japan, a series of experimental studies has been conducted inside an outdoor scale model canopy to find an effective design solution of water bodies for improving urban thermal environmentand pedestrian comfort. Thus, the study result may help designers and planners to manage tradeoffs between the cooling effect demands, land-use limits and other design elements in urban environments. By modifying its physical properties, the present study shows a clear evidence of the mitigating capacity of urban water bodies.
