Machine Learning-Based Prediction Of International Roughness Index For Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavements, Ragaa T. Abd El-Hakim, Ahmed N. Awaad, Sherif M. El-Badawy Jan 2024

Machine Learning-Based Prediction Of International Roughness Index For Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavements, Ragaa T. Abd El-Hakim, Ahmed N. Awaad, Sherif M. El-Badawy

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The International Roughness Index (IRI) serves as a crucial indicator for ride quality and user comfort. As road roughness escalates, road serviceability diminishes, resulting in reduced vehicle speed and increased travel time, and consequently higher carbon dioxide emissions. Predicting the IRI is of utmost importance for Pavement Management Systems and sustainable development overall. While numerous studies have forecasted the IRI of flexible pavements, there is a notable scarcity of research focusing on rigid pavement performance prediction. This study addresses the gap in predicting IRI for Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavements (CRCP), an understudied aspect of pavement engineering. Leveraging the Long-Term Pavement …

Getting A Handle On Floor Plan Analysis - Door Classification In Floor Plans And A Survey On Existing Datasets, João David, António Leitão Mar 2023

Getting A Handle On Floor Plan Analysis - Door Classification In Floor Plans And A Survey On Existing Datasets, João David, António Leitão

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

Floor plan interpretation and reconstruction is crucial to enable the transformation of drawings to 3D models or different digital formats. It has recently taken advantage of neural-based architectures, especially in the semantic segmentation field. These techniques perform better than traditional methods, but the results depend mainly on the data used to train the networks, which is often crafted for the specific task being performed, making it hard to reuse for different purposes. In this paper, we conduct a literature survey on the existing datasets for floor plan analysis, and we explore how information regarding door placement and orientation can be …

Gestural Design - Hand Tracking For Digital Drawing, Jordan A. Kanter, Kamil Quinteros Mar 2023

Gestural Design - Hand Tracking For Digital Drawing, Jordan A. Kanter, Kamil Quinteros

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

Computational design is increasingly interested in the active feedback between the user/designer and the digital space. Often, our initial instinct as designers comes from a gesture, a movement of the hands that gets translated into sketches and 3D models via the tools available to us. While the physical realm allows for muscle memory, tactile feedback, and creative output via movement, digital design often negates the body of the designer as it sequesters us into a screen-mouse-hand relationship. Moreover, current CAD software tools often reinforce this standardization, further limiting the potential of physical bodily gestures as a vehicle for architectural form-making. …

Generating Mass Housing Plans Through Gans - A Case In Toki, Turkey, Gi̇zem Özerol Özman, Semra Arslan Selçuk Mar 2023

Generating Mass Housing Plans Through Gans - A Case In Toki, Turkey, Gi̇zem Özerol Özman, Semra Arslan Selçuk

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

Nowadays, Machine Learning (ML) is frequently used in almost all disciplines having an intersection with technology. Recently, architects are using existing plan data sets in architecture through Deep Learning (DL) algorithms of big data to achieve generative and non-existent plan models by using ML. Especially, Generative Adversarial Neural Networks (GANs), one of the deep learning algorithms, have been in use in the creation of generative models for architectural studies. Within the scope of this paper, architectural drawings were generated by using GANs. This generation method allows for the training of spatial layout planning to networks and for the generation of …

Smart Building Energy Model Using Artificial Intelligence, Riad El Abed, Mohamed El-Gohary Dec 2021

Smart Building Energy Model Using Artificial Intelligence, Riad El Abed, Mohamed El-Gohary

BAU Journal - Science and Technology

This paper presents a Smart Building Energy Model of Residential Building using Artificial Neural Network model (ANN) to assist architects and engineers in selecting the optimum alternative design of building envelope parameters such that external wall and roof insulation material types and window types that minimizes the cost of energy consumption of a residential building to transform it to a green building.

Up to 1540 Simulations using different material thickness and conductivity values of material insulation properties and windows types are carried out in eQuest software for simulation.. The simulations results are implemented to create an artificial neural network inverse …

A Review Of Approaches To Solving The Problem Of Bim Search: Towards Intelligence-Assisted Design, Hamed Khademi, Avril Behan Jan 2017

A Review Of Approaches To Solving The Problem Of Bim Search: Towards Intelligence-Assisted Design, Hamed Khademi, Avril Behan

Conference papers

Due to the growing adoption of BIM and the rising popularity of cloud computing, BIM models are increasingly stored in central cloud repositories or Common Data Environments. Effective management and exploitation of these models creates the requirement for BIM retrieval systems. Thus far, the BIM industry has utilized general-purpose, text-based search techniques that operate on BIM metadata. This paper highlights the need for a domain-specific BIM search engine and reviews various approaches to address the problem of BIM search. Three main approaches were identified as context-, geometry-, and content-based BIM retrieval. For a comprehensive BIM retrieval system, all three approaches …
