The Role Of Design Flexibility In Raising The Efficiency Of Social Housing In Egypt, Asmaa Elsayed Shawky, Asmaa N. Elbadrawy, Nanees A. El-Sayyad

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The housing and real estate investment sector in Egypt has witnessed remarkable prosperity in recent years, despite the presence of accompanying problems such as population increase and political and economic problems. Government agencies have given great importance to the issue of providing adequate housing, especially for low-income and young people, in all development plans. From this point of view, this study was done with the aim of solving the problem of limited spaces in social housing by using design flexibility as one of the directions to solve these problems. Most of the users of these dwellings find it difficult to …

Early Supplier Involvement Framework For Reducing Construction Waste During The Design Process, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat Othman, Yomna Abdelghany El-Saeidy Jan 2022

Early Supplier Involvement Framework For Reducing Construction Waste During The Design Process, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat Othman, Yomna Abdelghany El-Saeidy

Architectural Engineering

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework to facilitate early supplier involvement (ESI) as an approach for reducing construction waste (CW) generated during the design process. Design/methodology/approach – A research methodology consists of literature review, case studies and survey questionnaire was designed to achieve the abovementioned aim. First, the literature review was used to investigate CW, CW generated during the design process, the design process and ESI. Second, two construction projects were analysed to investigate the role of ESI towards reducing CW generated during the design waste. Third, a survey questionnaire was carried out with …

Quantifying Materials Waste In The Egyptian Construction Industry: A Critical Analysis Of Rates And Factors, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat Othman, Ahmed Osama Daoud Dr., Obas John Ebohon, Ali Bayyati Feb 2021

Quantifying Materials Waste In The Egyptian Construction Industry: A Critical Analysis Of Rates And Factors, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat Othman, Ahmed Osama Daoud Dr., Obas John Ebohon, Ali Bayyati

Construction and demolition waste (CDW) is a critical challenge facing the construction industry. It leads to deterioration of the triple bottom line of sustainability. Unfortunately, the CDW management research in Egypt lacks studies investigating (1) the variations in CDW generation (CDWG) among different types of construction projects, and (2) the factors affecting CDW reduction (CDWR). Based on a benchmarking approach, this research (1) quantifies CDW in terms of generation rates and costs among different construction project types in Egypt, and (2) investigates the relationship between CDWG and different adopted CDWR factors. Using structured interviews, a comparative case study was conducted …

The Politics Of Land-Use Conversion In The Peri-Urban Areas Of The Egyptian Cities, Tarek Saad Ragab Oct 2020

The Politics Of Land-Use Conversion In The Peri-Urban Areas Of The Egyptian Cities, Tarek Saad Ragab

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

Linkages of rural-urban structures, in both degrees of intensity and typology, are ever changing and consequently changing the interface of the Egyptian urban setting. The dynamics of the rural-urban interrelationships constantly generate different types of powers that have been manipulating the pattern of urban growth as much as articulating distortion and imbalances of the entire urban system. The attributes of the system inputs, for example the nature of land-use policy and tools, determine to a far extent the quality of the outputs that could be epitomized in the accomplishment of the developmental national objectives. On the other hand, expanding the …

Managing Distortions In The Egyptian Spatial System: Does The Current Development Policy Pay Off?, Tarek Saad Ragab Oct 2020

Managing Distortions In The Egyptian Spatial System: Does The Current Development Policy Pay Off?, Tarek Saad Ragab

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

This research reviews the recent trend of the Egyptian national development policy of which major objectives are alleviating the intensity of untamed urban growth - and - population concentration in urban cores, and better integration of the national economy subsets. Despite attempts to reconcile these objectives in one agenda, the paper concludes that main issues endemic to the national spatial development policy in Egypt remain dangerously undervalued. The paper poses the question of whether the current spatial development policy paradigm can contribute effectively to managing the Egyptian spatial system imbalances. An answer was sought through policy analysis, which included the …

Towards Sustainability Of Architectural Education Programs In Publicuniversities In Egypt: Cairo University Case Study, Asmaa Saleh Oct 2020

Towards Sustainability Of Architectural Education Programs In Publicuniversities In Egypt: Cairo University Case Study, Asmaa Saleh

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

More than a decade ago; the concept of sustainability had a great concern from the whole world because of the global warming dilemma. Sustainability is a paradigm that contains environmental, economic and social factors. Many governments have adopted the sustainability paradigm especially in the MENA region as they are the most affected by global warming. In Egypt, within the government role in paving the way to sustainability; principles of sustainable development has been integrated into the country's policies and programs in reflection to sustainable development strategy of Egypt's vision 2030. However, the concept of sustainability is still considered as a …

A Framework To Activate The Health And Safety Regulations In The Egyptian Construction Industry, Mostafa Adel Elsebaei, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat Othman, Omar Elnawawy, Mohammed Badawy Jan 2020

A Framework To Activate The Health And Safety Regulations In The Egyptian Construction Industry, Mostafa Adel Elsebaei, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat Othman, Omar Elnawawy, Mohammed Badawy

Architectural Engineering

Purpose

The construction industry is considered one of the most dangerous industries especially in developing countries such as Egypt. Although safety in Egypt is regulated by mainly four pivotal legislations, namely, Law No. 12 (2003) and Ministerial Decrees No. 211, 126 and 134, construction accident records in Egypt are high. Accordingly, this paper aims to develop a framework to activate the health and safety regulations in the Egyptian construction industry.

Design/methodology/approach

To achieve this aim, a research methodology consisting of a literature review and a survey questionnaire was developed to accomplish three objectives. First, a literature review was used to …

A Framework For Implementing Integrated Project Delivery In Architecture Design Firms In Egypt, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat Othman, Lamis Yasser Wagih Youssef

Architectural Engineering

Purpose

This paper aims to develop a framework for implementing the integrated project delivery (IPD) approach during the design process in architecture design firms (ADFs) in Egypt.

Design/methodology/approach

A research methodology consists of literature review, case studies and survey questionnaire was designed to achieve the abovementioned aim. First, literature review was used to identify and categorise the challenges of implementing IPD during the design process. Second, four case studies were analysed to investigate the values delivered to the client or missed due to the use of IPD or traditional procurement approaches, respectively. Finally, a survey questionnaire was carried out with …
