Nonlinear Concrete Behaviour, Marian Sabau, Traian Onet
Nonlinear Concrete Behaviour, Marian Sabau, Traian Onet
Marian Sabau
This paper presents an overview of nonlinear behaviour in reinforced concrete structures. Structural concrete is a nonlinear material both at strength limit states and service loads. Are presented terms of effects that are primarily observed in concrete, steel or a combination of the two. When considering nonlinear behaviour, an important aspect is whether or not strain localization will occur as size effects. The model must first be validated by experiments and benchmark tests to ensure the safety and reliability criteria. In nonlinear finite element procedures, engineers must check their finite element discretization and modelling assumptions used in their analyses. Advanced …

A High Spatial Resolution Residential Energy Model Based On American Time Use Survey Data And The Bootstrap Sampling Method, Yun-Shang Chiou, Kathleen Carley, Cliff Davidson, Michael Johnson

A high spatial resolution model of energy use in residential buildings was developed based on time use data. The development of this model was guided by a theoretical framework that explains the nature of a dwelling’s physical characteristics, the nature of its occupants’ energy use behaviors and the ways in which the dwelling and its occupants interact to determine the energy use of a household. Energy Plus was used as the model platform. In the model, the occupants’ domestic activity pattern was extracted from American Time Use Survey (ATUS) data via bootstrap sampling. The dwelling’s physical characteristics were based on …

Urban Skater As City Shaper, Benjamin A. Shirtcliff
Benjamin A Shirtcliff
Studies on urban adolescents (youth) and the design of the built environment often begin with a problem-based approach that attempts to resolve an adult-perceived conflict between youth in general and the greater good of society (Kelly 2003; Rogers and Coaffee 2005).
Comparing Construction Costs Between Countries, Rick Best
Comparing Construction Costs Between Countries, Rick Best

This is a somewhat unusual book, in the context of the books found in contemporary construction management and construction economics. It is neither a textbook nor a guide to any of the many and varied functions and tasks of construction managers and construction economists. Instead it is a collection of chapters all of which are concerned in different ways with the question of how we analyse and understand the industry.
