The Annual Survey 2022 was conducted to assess the state of digital transformation in the Irish construction and built environment sector. This report presents the analysis of survey data, with a focus on implications for the Build Digital project and Build Digital’s five pillars: Digital Leadership & Cultural Change, Digital Standards, Digital Education & Training, Digital Procurement, and Sustainability & Circular Economy. Key findings from the survey indicated that a significant number of organisations have started their digital transformation journey, with many identifying themselves as proactive and possessing a clear business-focused strategy. The Digital Standards pillar consists of industry experts who champion the benefits of common rules, guidelines, and workflows that facilitate the improvement of information flow and information management across asset life cycles. Digital standards provide a common language that can be translated to technical specifications enabling clients, designers, contractors, and facilities managers, irrespective of their preferred tools, to communicate efficiently and reduce cost, rework, and disputes. Working closely with the Digital Procurement and Digital Education and Training pillars, this pillar is developing and delivering Irish Information Management/BIM (Digital Construction) guidelines for the sector.

In order to inform the Digital Leadership and Cultural Change pillar of the Build Digital, a study of international best practice in digital adoption within the built environment sector globally was undertaken and is presented here-in. In order to identify key learnings for Ireland in the context of digital transformation, eight countries were included in this study, namely, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom (UK), New Zealand, Australia and Singapore. This report looks at the potential financial impact of LD 1725 on the estimated 30,000 stream crossings in the State of Maine that would be affected by the law. Our research for this report included the analysis of nearly 2000 stream crossings and the data collection necessary for the development of extensive stream crossing replacement cost models. We found that the 1.2 bankfull requirements in LD 1725 would result in a 75% ‐ 250% increase in structure widths for stream crossing projects across the state. An upsize of this magnitude would increase the cost of replacing stream crossings statewide by …

The strength of solid wood beams is an important property to consider in construction. Such beams do not receive further primary processing after leaving the sawmill, and their quality and strength properties are therefore determined by their initial, primary breakdown at the sawmill. The most efficient means of controlling the quality of solid wood beams is thus at the sawmill level. This paper presents a method of determining the width and depth of solid beams that will maximize breaking load.

The Minor Theatre and the adjacent Minor Building have been submitted for consideration for designation under the City of Arcata's Landmark and Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (LHP). Both buildings are historically important to Arcata by virtue of their association with pioneer lumberman and entrepreneur Isaac Minor and because of their contribution to the commercial, social and cultural life of the community. Although the buildings have experienced exterior alterations since their construction three- quarters of a century ago, both retain sufficient architectural integrity to easily qualify for LHP designation.
