Building For Safety: Design Considerations For Refuge Areas In Tall Buildings From Quality Management Perspective, Enass. A. Salama, Heba. M. Gaber, Ahmed. M. Selim

Journal of Engineering Research

New El Alamein City is one of the largest urban projects in Egypt, and the largest project on the north coast. Tall buildings (super high-rise buildings) are considered the prevailing trend by architectural designers to obtain the maximum view of the Mediterranean Sea. The provision of safety evacuation in emergencies for these buildings’ occupants is a crucial challenge from the Quality management point of view. In contrast, there are no sufficient architectural design guidelines for the tall buildings provided by the Egyptian code for protecting buildings from fire, especially the design of the refuge areas. This study aims to investigate …

Impact Of Mega Projects Construction On Surrounding Traffic - A Case Study Of The Oncology Institute, Rania Abdo, Huda Soliman Seddiq, Walaa Ahmed Nour Prof, Bahaa El-Boshy

Journal of Engineering Research

The adverse effects of traffic on the quality of life have become undeniable, with congestion, noise, and pollution significantly impacting urban environments. Large construction projects risk exacerbating existing traffic problems or creating new ones without proper traffic planning and management. Notably, most existing studies predominantly concentrate on the post-construction phase of buildings, neglecting the broader temporal spectrum of project development. The importance of traffic studies is further underscored as they provide a proactive framework for planners, policymakers, and developers. By delving into the nuances of traffic impact during the entire project lifecycle, this research, instead of our research, not only …

The study explores the understanding of connectedness, integration, and axial route selection in urban parks using space syntax. It uses the Theory of Space Syntax to analyze georeferenced photographs and urban morphology data. The findings suggest that creating rules for integration and linkage that directly influence users' decision-making processes could lead to significant improvements in urban parks.

The study discusses space syntax as an architectural concept that views architecture as an interface between public and private spaces, analyzing landscapes through mirroring and focusing on internal configurations and exteriors. The study proposes a method to measure permeability and integration in urban …

The Applicability Of International-Environmental Rating Systems On Eco-Lodges, Amr Ali Bayoumi Dr., Ola Ali Bayoumi Dr.

Journal of Engineering Research

Thousands of years ago, Eco-lodges established in rural areas, away of the main cities, for multiple reasons; low populated area, healthier environment (psychological and physical health) and Economic development. Some of them were established randomly by local people and others were developed by architects or developers. Recently, it is essential to develop such projects in to deserts, forests or cold mountains in order to reduce the high population density in capital cities. Unfortunately, Environmental and International rating systems were not developed to be measuring tools to any type of Eco-lodge. Thus, the researcher had developed a new rating system adaptive …

Visual Privacy As An Approach To Improve Human Needs In Residential Buildings In Egypt, Inas Samir Ibrahim, Walaa Nour, Mustafa Alwan

Journal of Engineering Research

Architecture reflects a nation’s cultural, social, and environmental characteristics. As a result of the recent globalization, countries have lost their distinctive architectural identities; due to this, it is difficult to identify A country’s unique identity locally and regionally. Specifically, in Egypt, houses in the traditional style are considered one of the most iconic architectural styles. There is an amazing local identity and a unique spatial quality in the region that characterizes Egypt. On the other hand, Western influences have caused many of the values and attributes of houses to fade. One of the most prominent values is the home’s loss …

40 Sets Of Strong Ground Motion Records Convey All Design Response Spectrums Located In Tartous, Syria, Dr. Seraj Jdyd

Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث

Selecting seismic records in Global Standards is, until now, based on matching design response spectrum, where records should have seismological characteristics similar to the expected earthquake for the considered site (magnitude, distance, fault mechanism and soil conditions). Then it is necessary to scale these records to match the intensity of the earthquake expected for the site. Generally, scaling can be made by ground motions uniform scaling in time domain to best match (in average) the target spectrum within a period range of interest. Design ground motions are typically prescribed by smooth response spectra. But it is preferred to use a …
