Improving The Educational Experience Of Trauma-Impacted Students: Identifying Emerging Best Practices For Teaching Low-Socioeconomic Status Urban Students, Regina Lane
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative action research concentrates on examining the best practices for teachers in trauma-informed practices by producing an implementation guide to train the trainer. The theoretical framework utilized to help inform the development of this research was Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory (1989) in relation to human development for identifying the emerging best practices with being trauma informed. The scope of this research focuses on low-socioeconomic status (SES) urban youth, so cultural sensitivity is naturally always a component of a complete train-the-trainer, trauma-informed teaching program. I identified the emerging best practices in two ways: (a) by gathering and summarizing supporting sources …

Public Accommodations And The Civil Rights Act Of 1964: A Surprising Success?, Brian K. Landsberg
Public Accommodations And The Civil Rights Act Of 1964: A Surprising Success?, Brian K. Landsberg
McGeorge School of Law Scholarly Articles
When the Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law the Johnson Administration had ample reason to worry that Title II of the Act, forbidding racial discrimination in public accommodations, would meet widespread, even violent resistance in the Deep South. The Supreme Court upheld Title II’s constitutionality, based on the Commerce Clause of the Constitution. Despite pockets of resistance, within a few years of the passage of the Act, racial discrimination in public accommodations had become the exception, not the rule. While some problems remain, Title II has, on the whole, been remarkably successful. The melting of resistance to Title II …

Debt Contagion In The Europe: A Panel-Vector Autoregressive (Var) Analysis, Sharmila K. King, Florence Bouvet, Ryan Brady
Debt Contagion In The Europe: A Panel-Vector Autoregressive (Var) Analysis, Sharmila K. King, Florence Bouvet, Ryan Brady
College of the Pacific Faculty Articles
The European sovereign-debt crisis began in Greece when the government announced in December, 2009, that its debt reached 121% of GDP (or 300 billion euros) and its 2009 budget deficit was 12.7% of GDP, four times the level allowed by the Maastricht Treaty. The Greek crisis soon spread to other Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) countries, notably Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Italy. Using quarterly data for the 2000–2011 period, we implement a panel-vector autoregressive (PVAR) model for 11 EMU countries to examine the extent to which a rise in a country’s bond-yield spread or debt-to-GDP ratio affects another EMU countries’ …

Park (he expansive 760,000-acre Yosemite National Park consists of meadows, forests, and mountains that presently awe over three million visitors annually.1 Yosemite Valley became the second national park in 1890 after an intense nationwide conflict that most tourists neglect to acknowledge when scaling the glacial-smoothened sides of Half Dome or navigating woodlands of sugar pines and giant sequoias. John Muir, a foremost figure in the early conservation movement, spearheaded the proposal and …

Hanna and his wife Wanda (John Muir's eldest daughter), Richard died May 9 of this year in Hamilton, Montana. He and his younger sister, the late Jean Hanna Clark, were instrumental in turning over the John Muir Papers to the custody of the University of the Pacific in 1970. He was also the principal custodian of John Muir's personal library, and during the 1970s donated over a thousand volumes from that monumental collection to the …
