Maine History
The Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842, which established the Maine-New Brunswick boundary along the St. John River, divided the Acadian settlements in the valley. Among the questions this posed for residents and for church officials was the location of the diocesan boundary: would it follow national, or ethnic lines? The ultimate resolution - the parishes south of the river were transferred to the Diocese of Portland - depended not only on established Roman Catholic practice in matters of changing national boundaries, but also upon the personalities involved, including the bishops of Portland and Saint John and the parishioners on both sides …

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
In 1987, the Center for Archaeological Research entered into a contract with the San Antonio Metropolitan Transit Authority to provide consultant services for the downtown San Antonio Tri-Party Improvements project. Preliminary research was provided prior to initiation of construction, and monitoring was conducted during the three years of modifications to the downtown area. The archaeological resources exposed during the project were researched and documented, and recommendations were made throughout the construction period.

A New York City native drawn to Providence College by the love and example of her uncle, Rev. Cornelius P. Forster, O.P., Dr. Donna T. McCaffrey ’73G, ’83 Ph.D., and ’87G was a seminal figure in the history of the College — the same history she chronicled so fondly and scrupulously. Reservation Leadership And The Progressive-Traditional Dichotomy: William Wash And The Northern Utes, 1865-1928, Davis Rich Lewis
History Faculty Publications
In the early twentieth century, Indian Bureau officials noted an increasing incidence of tribal factionalism parallel to changes in Indian reservation leadership. They described this factionalism in terms of a progressive-traditional dichotomy. Modern scholars have unintentionally fallen into this semantic trap. This article explores the complexity of individual motivations and factional politics among the Northern Utes through the life of William Wash and suggests that such cultural middlemen offer a more complete picture of reservation politics.
