Factors Associated With Parenting Stress And Self-Competence In Single And Married Mothers Of Preschool-Aged Children, Erin Tentis

This study examined the differences between married and single mothers in parenting stress and parenting self-competence. Fifty married and 45 single mothers of children aged 3- 4- or 5-years old participated in this study. Each mother completed a packet of questionnaires that included a demographics form, the Parenting Stress Index - Short Form, the Parenting Sense of Competence scale, the Daily Hassles subscale of the Hassles and Uplifts Scale, the Social Provisions Scale, the Colorado Child Temperament Inventory, and the Child Behavior Questionnaire.

Normal mental health has always been defined from a Euro-centric worldview that excludes non-Westem cultures. In fact, what is normal is biased against non-Westem cultural ideals that influenced the definition of mental health. The difference between Eastern and Western cultural values suggest that the two cultures may also have differing views on the definition of normal mental health. The most commonly accepted definition of normality currently in use in the West is based on the models of health, utopia, average, transactional systems, and pragmatism. Both the punk rock end Christian rock music subcultures have been the subject of analyses that cast them in “negationist” terms-as groups critically opposed to popular/secular culture. Despite their categorization of these music genres as antitheses, however, no analysis has gone so far as to read them specifically in the context of German philosopher GAV.F. Hegel whose dialectical model systematized the opposition of thesis and antithesis. Moreover, no analysis has juxtaposed the two suspiciously similar subcultures in dialectical terms, and theorized them in terms of their documented opposition to each other. Previous elder abuse research has focused much of its efforts on Caucasian populations, leaving a dearth of information for minorities. A particularly overlooked population has been American Indian and Alaska Native populations in the United States. Very few studies have been done on Native populations to assess incidence, types of abuse, and how elder abuse is managed. An assessment of the industry was needed to project the future of the aircraft dispatcher profession, as well as indicate the necessity of additional aircraft dispatcher training facilities in the United States. Factors That Effect Prolonged Intubation Of Postoperative Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Patients, Sheri L. Triepke

The purpose of this study was to identify contributing factors that cause coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients to remain intubated longer than eight hours. Current practice in CABG anesthesia advocates tracheal extubation within one to eight hours after surgery. With the advances made in anesthetic techniques and post-operative analgesia, the CABG population should consistently be extubated within the eight hour time frame.

A retrospective medical chart review of 30 CABG patients remaining intubated longer than eight hours was conducted. A study group of 30 patients extubated within eight hours was used for comparison.

Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) causes distress and anxiety to the pediatric patient. PONV can lead to dehydration, disruption of the incision site, delayed discharge and cause unanticipated hospitalization after ambulatory surgery. The reported incidence of PONV in children can be up to twice that of the adult patient. There are many different strategies used in treating or preventing pediatric PONV including pharmacologic, nonpharmacologic, homeopathic, and multi-modal therapies. The purposes of this qualitative study were to discover what influences collaboration had on an interdisciplinary team practicing in a rural Midwestern long-term -care facility, to discover what factors influence collaboration, and to discover what barriers can hinder collaboration for the interdisciplinary team practicing in this facility. In this descriptive, qualitative study, eleven semi-structured in-depth interviews were completed, and a constant comparative method of data analysis was used.

Due to the great increase in popularity of women’s ice hockey, it is important for coaches to have good testing and training methods in order to know their players’ on-ice fitness level. This study examined the correlation between the on-ice Reed Repeat Skating test (RSS) and the off-ice cycle ergometer VCtemax test on female collegiate ice hockey players. Twenty-one participants were tested on both tests but only fourteen participants’ data could be analyzed.

The results indicated that the off-ice V02max test was not significantly correlated to RSS drop-off index (r = -0.253) and total time (r = -0.480). Player’s age, …

The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent to which selected factors (i.e., student funding, lack of adequate academic preparation, personal commitment, family support, child care issues, transportation problems, and job conflict, and other factors that students identify) contribute to the student retention and attrition at a single mid-western Tribal College.

A total of 782 survey questionnaires were mailed to former (including stop-outs, dropouts, and graduates) and current Sitting Bull College (SBC) students. These surveyed students were chosen from the SBC student enrollment data beginning spring semester 2001 through spring semester 2004.
