This Masters project consists of two elements: 1) an integrated after-school program to improve student English language reading and academic outcomes for third graders' vocabulary development by incorporating music, artistic creativity and linguistics; 2) a pilot sample curriculum that demonstrates the approach for building student comprehension through musical theater and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) content experiences. Called "Water Buddy", this is an after-school program uses singing, dancing, writing, and play to build reading and vocabulary skills. The purpose of this research is to conduct a secondary analysis of data from an Elderly Inpatient Mobility Program pilot tested in a 545 bed hospital. Mobility and ambulation are essential functions that help people maintain their health. They are especially important for the elderly whose functions may be compromised by age related changes of decreased muscle strength and elasticity, bone fragility, ligaments deterioration, decreased endurance, and acquired chronic conditions.

This thesis examines real language in use to observe the different intonation contours associated with the discourse marker "whatever" to see if or how these contours contribute to the pragmatic meaning associated with the different functions. Interactional sociolinguistic and conversational analysis approach to investigate the different pragmatic meaning associated with the discourse marker "whatever" were employed to carry out the analysis. In addition, corpus linguistic methodology was used to gather data to investigate the different pragmatic meanings of the word "whatever."

This thesis will show work on Orthogonal Polynomials. In mathematics, the type of polynomials that are orthogonal to each other under inner product are called orthogonal polynomials. Jacobi polynomials, Laguerre polynomials, and Hermite polynomials are examples of classical orthogonal polynomials that was invented in the nineteenth century. The theory of rational approximations is one of the most important applications of orthogonal polynomials.

This study examined coping skills and social support among women who experienced intimate partner violence (IPV). Intimate partner violence is a serious social problem. Women who are abused by an intimate partner are at higher risk for experiencing negative mental health outcomes, including depression and PTSD, substance abuse, and are also at risk for re-victimization than those who are not abused.

The following project is an analysis of a section of data collected during the development of thirty-two different undercover anti-bullying teams at Edgewater College. Edgewater College is situated by the Tamaki estuary in Pakuranga, Auckland, New England. The research was based on the data collected from mainstream students, both male and female, with ages ranging from 13-18 years old. The students in this sample have an involvement in bullying that ranges from being peer bystanders, perpetrators and/or bullying targets.

The purpose of this clinical project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a self-management diabetes education program, designed for the underserved Hispanic population in the Eastern Coachella Valley, California. The project was conducted as part of a clinical assignment in the graduate nursing program at California State University, San Bernardino. Thirty-eight participants were recruited from Indio Family Center. In a face-to-face meeting with a diabetic educator, individual participants completed a self-care activity survey and received diabetes related education.

This research evaluated the effectiveness of the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) gang prevention program among elementary school children. The focus of this research is to determine if the G.R.E.A.T. program changes the attitudes and beliefs of elementary school boys and girls who live in areas that are at high risk of gang involvement and gang related crimes.
