The purpose of this study was to determine the differences between industrial and municipal executives' practices and perceptions toward the administrative requirements of a water pollution control system as set forth in a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. This was a descriptive study that utilized a two-part attitudinal survey designed to obtain the perceptions of the executives (N = 171) of all major industries and all major municipalities in the State of Tennessee who had direct responsibility for the administrative requirements of an NPDES permitted water pollution control system. The Nurse Manager: An Ethnography Of Hospital-Based First-Line Nurse Managers Practicing In An Expanded Role, Sally Everson-Bates Dnsc, Ma, Rn

The behaviors, beliefs and values that characterize everyday practice of first-line nurse managers role were analyzed. Ethnographic field research techniques were used including nine months of observation and in-depth interviews with practicing nurse managers. After reviewing historical events that shaped the role of the nurse manager, the role was then placed within the economic, social and health care context of the 1970's and 80's. Research and anecdotal descriptions of the manager role of the past twenty years were also explored. Research was conducted in two voluntary acute care, multi-service hospitals. Effective new-product development will be one of the greatest management challenges of the 1990s. This paper explores the new-product development process and discusses the process in terms of specialty and performance chemical businesses. The focus of this paper is on understanding how structure (particularly working structure), business orientation, and the existence of strategy influences new-product development. The paper discusses the rationale for, and the measurement of, loose-tight structures in the new-product development process. An approach to measuring business orientation is suggested, tested and recommended for further study.

Drastic regulatory and environmental changes have forced thrifts and banks to concentrate on increasing efficiency and core profitability from the retail branch network.
