Thermal Control Of An Electronic Enclosure Utilizing A Vapor Chamber, Michael L. Dougherty
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This thesis addresses the problem of extracting heat from sealed electronic enclosures. Typical industry practice is to use various air-to-air and air-to-liquid heat exchangers. These techniques are known to require costly custom designs. This thesis points out how one can apply heat pipe technology in the form of a vapor chamber to solve this type of problem. The details on the design and testing of two prototype vapor chambers are cited. Included in the text are typical industrial applications that require sealed enclosures to protect their associated electronic control hardware. Also mentioned is some historical background on heat pipes.

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A fixed charge model has been developed for a case study of a total energy power plant involving energy demands for chilled water, high temperature hot water, and electrical power. Using a FORTRAN computer program, which employs the Land and Doig branch and bound algorithm, the system model is solved for different sets of system demands for multiple energy users, and the following set of information is obtained to guide the decisions of operations personnel: 1. Recommend on/off status for each piece of equipment in the system. 2. Recommended rate of operation for each piece of machinery. 3. Required amounts …
Analytical And Experimental Investigation Of Thermosyphon Solar Hot Water Systems, William E. Clark
Analytical And Experimental Investigation Of Thermosyphon Solar Hot Water Systems, William E. Clark
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A computer simulation of a thermosyphon system allowing load drawoff and non-ideal weather conditions has been developed. The model is restricted to the more common single cover, flat plate collector system. Using an analysis based on the present literature, this model calculates the energy absorbed by the collector, the temperature distribution through the system, and the corresponding flow rate. Experimental data for a non-ideal day is compared to the computer simulation. Results of this comparison indicate that the desired parameters, flow rate, collector inlet and outlet temperatures, and the mean tank temperature can be predicted by this model to within …

Mass Loadings Of Selected Water Quality Parameters For The State Of Florida, Charles D. Miller
Mass Loadings Of Selected Water Quality Parameters For The State Of Florida, Charles D. Miller
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The mass loadings of pollutants common in surface waters result from the discharges of many different sources. In the last few years it has been noted that nonpoint sources contribute more pollutants than point sources. This is because in many cases the point source discharges have been, by law, reduced drastically. In the State of Florida many water quality parameters were examined to estimate the mass loadings in streams related to, drainage area, average flow, land use, soil type and management practices. A total of sixteen streams were examined. The information was first calculated for mass loadings as a function …

Plotting Frequency Response With The Hybrid Computer, David Kenneth Swartwood
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This paper describes a hybrid computer microprogram which plots frequency domain responses for linear systems. The microprogram computes the real and imaginary parts of the system output and displays either Bode or Nyquist plots. Various approaches are discussed and a detailed explanation of the one selected is presented. The major areas of discussion are the sinewave generator, the computation of real and imaginary parts of the system output, the logarithm computation and the digital control logic. The conclusion give s comparison of a Nyquist plot made with the microprogram with one calculated by a digital computer. Possible improvements for the …
Analytical And Experimental Investigation Of Pumped Solar Hot Water Systems, Jeffrey B. Pearce
Analytical And Experimental Investigation Of Pumped Solar Hot Water Systems, Jeffrey B. Pearce
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A transient computer model of a forced circulation solar hot water system has been developed. The model allows for capacitance effects by solving the energy balances on a four node model of the solar collector. The tank model is designed to include the presence of an auxiliary heater and to allow for the nonideal condition of load drawoff. Five tests were done to validate the computer model. These tests include a comparison of the computer simulation with experimental data and a model available in the literature. The results of these tests indicate that the computer model is able to predict …

A Comparative Study Of Forecasting Techniques For The Us Air Force Medical Material Management System, Phillip John Van Ess
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A computer simulation experiment was conducted to evaluate and compare five individual forecasting models across nine different demand patterns. The models were based on the Medical Materiel Management System used by the US Air Force hospitals. Results indicated the best model varied depending on the demand pattern, the safety stock level, the noise level of the demand pattern, and the measure of forecast error. Across all demand patterns, exponential smoothing and 12-month moving average were best for the short term forecast used by the system, regardless of noise level in the demand patterns. Analysis of models within a single demand …

Multicoupled Bandpass Filter Design Using A Multiple Feedback Configuration, Robert J. Martin
Multicoupled Bandpass Filter Design Using A Multiple Feedback Configuration, Robert J. Martin
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
In this paper, two methods for the design of active analog feedback bandpass filter pairs are examined. A third method is presented that does not use extra amplifiers for summation nor multicoupling. This third method uses identical bandpass amplifies and employs resistor summing to provide multicoupling. The name of this configuration is the "Dual Amplifier Bandpass Filter Employing Resistor Summing" (DABFERS). This configuration is economically attractive, has low sensitivity and better phase lag characteristics. In addition, third order prototypes are examined and a solution method for higher order prototypes is suggested.
