Recent advancements in Large Scale Integration Technology have made available devices, such as microprocessors, analog gates and "three state" logic, that provide the designer with a wide range of possibilities in the design of telecommunication systems. A microprocessor and analog gates are utilized in this design to demonstrate the feasibility of implementing a flexible Telecommunication System. The microprocessor is programmed to control, through software, the system functions. The feasibility of systems highly adaptable to the needs of individual subscribers is thus demonstrated.

Directing texts are inadequate in their various approaches to teaching the concepts of stage-composition. The goal of this thesis was to show that, for an approach to stage composition to be judged adequate, it must systematically provide the student of directing with a firm grounding in design and compositional principles as they relate to the total stage picture.

Research on the effects of school desegregation has failed to produce conclusive findings. An over emphasis on the outcomes of school desegregation, usually assessed through the use of standardized test scores, has created a situation in which there exists a paucity of studies of the day to day process of school desegregation: instructional practices, student interaction, and teacher behavior in the classroom. More research on the process of school desegregation is needed if its results or outcomes are to become more interpretable.

The purpose of this evaluative study was to develop and implement a program evaluation design for a model of early mental health intervention to primary grade level classrooms in a public elementary school. Eighty-three Didelphis virginiana from the Portland metropolitan area were collected and studied from December 1974 through May 1976. Males averaged 3394 g, females 2318 g. An annual sex ratio of 68.7:31.3 was recorded. Data indicate the possibility of a year-round breeding season and suggest the occurrence of three peaks of reproductive activity: January-February, April-May and October-November. The six primary foods consumed annually are: leaf litter, mammals, gastropods, earthworms, grasses and pet food. Seasonal composition and diversity in the diet is marked. Twenty-one morphological characters were measured in shrews from four islands in the Columbia River and from the adjacent Oregon and Washington shores. Information on the history and characteristics of the river islands was gathered to facilitate interpretation of the shrew’s morphology data. Significant differences between character means of different populations were detected and average taxonomic distances between pairs of populations were calculated. The Columbia River is an incomplete barrier to gene flow, but its influence has been sufficient to allow divergence of island populations. Natural selection on the small gene pools of island populations has probably contributed to the divergence. …

A review of the literature on the inaccurate singer provided strong evidence that improvement in pitch matching skill was possible. Visual feedback was found to be an effective aid in earlier studies, but none of the previous studies provided both a comparison group which had identical practice without the visual cues and a control group which received no form of practice. The present study extended the Lewis and Goldberg (1968) study and included the parameter of infant temperament as defined by Thomas, Chess, Birch, Hertzig and Korn (1963). As in the Goldberg study, the index of response decrement was used as a measure of the infant’s development. It was hypothesized that response decrement would be positively correlated with high frequency of caregiver stimulation and negatively correlated with high infant intensity and activity ratings. Response decrement is the measured decrease in the amount of time an infant looks at a novel stimulus after several trials. It was computed by observing the infant’s …

Chlorine is thought to play a major role in the mobilization and concentration of base metals in the formation of ore deposits. The regional distribution of chlorine in the Idaho Batholith was studied to see if this could be related to mineralization or metallic provinces. One hundred forty-eight whole-rock samples, mineral separates, and standards were analyzed for chlorine by x-ray fluorescence.

The expected concentration of chlorine in the biotite fraction was not found. The chlorine was not significantly water leachable from the whole rock samples following normal grinding. The Idaho Batholith as a source for mineralizing chlorine was not established. …

The present study was a modified replication of Miller and Seligman’s (1973) study. Expectancy ratings under skill and chance tasks were examined in 51 college students in four groups: depressed high-external, depressed low-external, nondepressed high-external, and nondepressed low-external. The major hypothesis predicted that there would be greater association (1) between both magnitude and direction of expectancy change and outcome of the previous trial (success/non-success) with nondepression than with depression, under the skill task, (2) between both magnitude and direction of expectancy change and outcome of the previous trial (success/non-success) with low-externality than with high-externality, under the skill task, and (3) …

Using the standard Jurassic zonal scheme, this work attempts to determine the ages of the four members of the Snowshoe Formation that crop out in the Izee area. As a corollary, regional correlations are possible. The stratigraphic relationship between the Snowshoe Formation, the subjacent Hyde Formation and the superjacent Trowbridge Formation is also investigated.

Over one thousand fossils were collected from five stratigraphic sections and eight localities. Thermal ecology and movement of the Leopard Lizard, G. wistizeniwere studied at Frog Spring, adjacent to the Alvord Desert, and at various locations throughout the Alvord Basin. Seasonal activity is known to occur from early May to mid-October, but abundance. gradually decreases after late July. During favorable late spring, and summer weather lizards exhibit a bimodal pattern of diel activity with some activity occurring at all hours of the day between 0600 and 1800 H. The present study investigated the expressive and interpersonal functioning of nonverbal behavior within a dyadic relationship. A questionnaire derived from the Interpersonal Perception Method of Laing, Phillipson, and Lee (1966) was developed to assess the impact of an interviewer’s nonverbal behavior on the interviewee’s experience of herself, the interviewer, and their relationship.

To determine this impact and evaluate the usefulness of the instrument, two interviewer nonverbal behavior sets were defined. The effect of the following pesticides on DC electrical conductivity of lecithin-cholesterol membranes has been studied: endothall, paraquat, diquat, 2,4-D, 2,4-DB, 2,4,5-T, 2,4-DCP. It has been found that the ions of endothall, paraquat and diquat are essentially membrane impermeable and that they do not bind to the membrane surface. In contrast, 2,4-D, 2,4-DB, 2,4,5-T and 2,4-DCP induce electrical conductivity in lecithincholesterol membranes and in addition they also cause an increase in the nonactin-K⁺ membrane conductivity.

The Snoqualmie pass area lies about 50 mi (80 km) east of Seattle, Washington, along the crest of the Cascade Range. Five stratified units, forming a composite section over 22,000 ft (6700 m) thick, are recognized in the area. They were deformed and later intruded by granodiorite and quartz monzonite porphyry of the Snoqualmie batholith (middle Miocene). The oldest unit, the Denny Formation (Permian), 7000 ft (2100 m) thick, consists of interstratified basalt, andesite and dacite volcanic rocks and limestone and chert beds.
