Breastfeeding provides complete nutrition to infants and reduces the risk of many chronic diseases among infants and their mothers, yet disparities exist. African American mothers have the lowest breastfeeding rates compared to other ethnic groups in the United States. Preventive health care screening plays an essential role in reducing chronic diseases and mortality rates; yet, even as health care access has increased, African American men’s utilization of preventive screenings remains low in rural areas. The underrepresentation of African American (AA) nurses in South Carolina (SC) emergency rooms (ERs) may affect quality patient care for AAs and all other patients in culturally diverse populations. This qualitative interpretive (hermeneutic) phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of AA nurses in several SC ERs concerning quality patient care in culturally diverse populations. Disparity in access to appropriate mental health care among African Americans compared to non-Hispanic Whites is growing. The purpose of this quantitative retrospective study was to examine the relationship between access to an outpatient mental health facility with case management and access to outpatient mental health services among African Americans with Medicaid compared to non-Hispanic Whites with Medicaid. Children may become overweight or obese for different reasons, and childhood obesity may have health consequences such as Type 2 diabetes and asthma. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to describe the perceptions of African American parents of elementary-age children with obesity living in Broward County, Florida about the causes and consequences of childhood obesity.
