Space And Spirit Exhibition: A Panel Discussion, Murray Rae, Calvin Seerveld, Jo-Ann Van Reeuwyk

Symposium on Worship Archive

A brochure for the Space and Spirit exhibit in association with the 2005 Calvin Symposium on Worship.

What constitutes a sacred space or a sacred place? Furthermore, if by definition sacred space is where one meets God, then many other questions beg to be asked. Does God designate this place or do we? Do we set the criteria for sacred place or is it revealed to us? If God is everywhere, are all spaced sacred? How does one move into or experience sacred place?

This exhibition represents a range of responses to such questions by artists throughout the United States, …

Morning Plenary Session, Calvin Seerveld Jan 2005

Morning Plenary Session, Calvin Seerveld

Symposium on Worship Archive

A handout to accompany the morning plenary service hosted by Calvin Seerveld, based off of the Psalms and Seerveld's book "Voicing God's Psalms."

The Psalms are for all of us! Whether we love classical organ music or jazz, contemporary praise music or global songs, the Psalms provide a deep well of instruction and inspiration. In our work at the Worship Institute over the past year, we have been deeply encouraged regarding the use of biblical Psalms in new churches, traditional churches, contemporary churches, urban churches, military bases, nursing homes, and hospitals.

Psalm 8 - A Psalm Of Praise And Morning Plenary Session, Dorothy Bass Jan 2005

Psalm 8 - A Psalm Of Praise And Morning Plenary Session, Dorothy Bass

Symposium on Worship Archive

Two handouts, one focusing on a morning worship service on Psalm 8, the other a handout from the morning plenary session conducted by Dorothy Bass.

Our four plenary worship services this year are based on Psalms, each reflecting a different dimension of prayer. Each service is stylistically quite distinct, yet each includes many common elements. Though many participants may be prompted to prepare a series of services, sermons, or worship committee devotionals based on these four services, our primary goal is not to offer model services for analysis or replication. Rather, we pray that these services will be a source …

Our four plenary services this year are based on Psalms, each reflecting a different dimension of prayer. Each service is stylistically quite distinct, yet each includes many common elements. Though many participants may be prompted to prepare a series of services, sermons, or worship committee devotions based on these four services, our primary goal is not to offer model services for analysis or replication. Rather, we pray that these services will be a source of biblically grounded encouragement, challenge, nourishment, and refreshment for all who participate during our time …

Program - Calvin Symposium On Worship: Word, Image, Music, Action

Symposium on Worship Archive

We hope that the Symposium has some of the same flavor of joy that the Israelites experienced when they came up to Jerusalem each year for their annual festivals. They came from different tribes, and eventually from different lands and tongues (like the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8). God has drawn us together here also to offer our worship in ways that celebrate the diversity of the children of God in our churches and communities. And so we will all be stretched beyond our familiar surroundings of worshiping communities large and small, some of whom have moved in one direction …

Improved Pasture Systems Make Sense... And Dollars Too!, Jason Tower Jan 2005

Improved Pasture Systems Make Sense... And Dollars Too!, Jason Tower

Forage Symposium at the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Convention

Talk to most any beef producer and he can tell you the facts of his beef operation. Many cattlemen can go back three or four generation on a cow’s pedigree. He can tell you what bull was used on the farm for each of the last ten years. More than likely he can tell you the number of calves he weaned last year. He can tell you the average weight of those calves and if he topped the market, there is no doubt you will soon learn what price he received for the calves. Ask this cattleman what it cost …

Corn As A Grazing Crop: An Option For Extending The Grazing Season In Kentucky, David C. Ditsch, John T. Johns, Steven G. Isaacs, Tyler B. Mark, C. D. Lee Jan 2005

Corn As A Grazing Crop: An Option For Extending The Grazing Season In Kentucky, David C. Ditsch, John T. Johns, Steven G. Isaacs, Tyler B. Mark, C. D. Lee

Forage Symposium at the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Convention

Grazing is the cheapest way to feed cattle on a cost per pound of nutrient basis. However, producers with limited land resources in Kentucky have been able to use commodities or grain by-products to increase cattle numbers due to low cost and availability of these inputs. Extending the grazing season is one solution that would enable producers to reduce cost and expand production with little or no impact on the environment.

Forage Quality--Back To Basics, Garry D. Lacefield Jan 2005

Forage Quality--Back To Basics, Garry D. Lacefield

Forage Symposium at the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Convention

Forage quality means different things to different people. Forage quality varies tremendously among and within forage crops. Forage quality needs varies among and within animal species. Forage quality has been defined in terms of protein, fiber, lignin content, relative feed value, relative forage quality, color, smell, leafiness, fineness of stems, total digestible nutrients, and other physical and/or chemical components. All of these components have merit, but all fall short of clearly defining forage quality. Factors such as average daily gains, conception rates, milk production, wool production, etc. are reliable indicators of forage quality. Forage quality can be defined as: the …
