A Tree-Ring Based Reconstruction Of Logan River Streamflow In Northern Utah, Eric B. Allen, Tammy M. Rittenour, Justin Derose, Matthew F. Bekker, Roger Kjelgren, Brendan M. Buckley
Plants, Soils, and Climate Faculty Publications
We created six new tree-ring chronologies in northern Utah, which were used with preexisting chronologies from Utah and western Wyoming to reconstruct mean annual flow for the Logan River, the largest tributary of the regionally important Bear River. Two reconstruction models were developed, a “Local” model that incorporated two Rocky Mountain juniper chronologies located within the basin, and a “Regional” model that also included limber pine and pinyon pine chronologies from a larger area. The Local model explained 48.2% of the variability in the instrumental record and the juniper chronologies better captured streamflow variability than Douglas-fir collected within the Logan …

Stellaris FISH workshop GADPH and DAPI Z-series at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.
The zip file contains raw and GPU deconvolved image data from a workshop Biosearch Technologies conducted for MDACC researchers in December 2013. Image data was acquired on a Leica DMI6000 microscope with Lumencor SOLA light engine, DAPI and Cy5 filter cubes, Hamamatsu ORCA FLASH4.0 sCMOS camera (500 ms exposure time per plane for Quasar 670).
Pixel size 100 nm XY.
Z-step size 200 nm.
32 planes (power of 2 is optimal for GPU deconvolution). With 500 ms exposure time, the Quasar 670 GADPH FISH probes images …
Principal Angles And Approximation For Quaternionic Projections [Dataset], Terry A. Loring
Principal Angles And Approximation For Quaternionic Projections [Dataset], Terry A. Loring
Math and Statistics Datasets
We extend Jordan's notion of principal angles to work for two subspaces of quaternionic space, and so have a method to analyze two orthogonal projections in the matrices over the real, complex or quaternionic field (or skew field). From this we derive an algorithm to turn almost commuting projections into commuting projections that minimizes the sum of the displacements of the two projections. We quickly prove what we need using the universal real C*-algebra generated by two projections.

Gunnison's Prairie Dog Restoration Experiment (Gpdrex): Small Mammal Mark-Recapture Population Assessment Within Grasslands At The Sevilleta National Widlife Refuge, New Mexico (2013-2014), Stephanie Baker
Sevilleta LTER Program Data
Prairie dogs (Cynomys spp.) are burrowing rodents considered to be ecosystem engineers and keystone species of the central grasslands of North America. Yet, prairie dog populations have declined by an estimated 98% throughout their historic range. This dramatic decline has resulted in the widespread loss of their important ecological role throughout this grassland system. The 92,060 ha Sevilleta NWR in central New Mexico includes more than 54,000 ha of native grassland. Gunnison’s prairie dogs (C. gunnisoni) were reported to occupy ~15,000 ha of what is now the SNWR during the 1960’s, prior to their systematic eradication. In 2010, we collaborated …

Irs Supporting Community Engagement, Part 2: Regional Research At Brockport (Suny) And Umass (Amherst), Kim Myers, Marilyn Billings
Kim Myers
Institutional repositories can play a key role in a college or university’s mission to serve the greater community. At the College at Brockport (SUNY), Kim Myers views the repository as an ideal venue for supporting and sharing regional, community-oriented scholarship. SUNY Brockport has long been a center for Great Lakes research, but for years this valuable research was housed primarily on one professor’s computer. Working with Professor Joseph Makarewicz, Kim has created an IR collection to archive and disseminate these research articles, government documents, community newsletters, and technical reports. At the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Scholarly Communication & Special Initiatives …

Geoexes - My Dos Executables - Use At Your Own Risk, George Mcnamara

The downloadable ZIP file contains old Turbo Pascal programs I wrote. These ran in Microscoft DOS and in early Windows (ex. Windows 3.1) DOS shells. They may or may not work in recent (Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7) cmd or command "shells". No warranty. Use at your own risk. I do not expect to ever program in Turbo Pascal again so if anyone wants to "take over" my old code (and adjust copyirght notices, warnings, etc), please email me. In particular, MATH.exe had 10,000 lines of pascal code in it. Another program is LUTSconv.exe which converted Fractint MAP lookup tables …
Estimating Norms Of Commutators [Dataset], Terry A. Loring, Freddy Vides
Estimating Norms Of Commutators [Dataset], Terry A. Loring, Freddy Vides
Math and Statistics Datasets
We find estimates on the norm of a commutator of the form [f(x),y] in terms of the norm of [x,y], assuming that x and y are bounded linear operators on Hilbert space, with x normal and with spectrum within the domain of f. In particular we discuss |[x^2,y]| and |[x^{1/2},y]| for 0leq x leq 1. For larger values of delta = |[x,y]| we can rigorous calculate the best possible upper bound |[f(x),y]| leq eta_f(delta) for many f. In other cases we have conducted numerical experiments that strongly suggest that we have in many cases found the correct formula for the …

An Identification And Evaluation Of Information Security And Assurance Research Outlets, Michael Whitman, Humayun Zafar, Herbert J. Mattord
Faculty and Research Publications
The purpose of this study is to identify and comparatively assess the quality of information security specific publishing venues. Past studies in information systems and computer science have shown that information security-focused research can be published in mainstream information systems- and computer science-centric periodicals; however no studies to date have been found that specifically compared venues focused primarily on information security. Therefore the results of this study, when combined with assessments of publishing venues from those disciplines, can provide a more comprehensive perspective on publishing opportunities for academic authors in information security. Faculty members seeking research recognition should strive to …
