This study uncovers the religious and ethnic history of northern New England- Maine and Vermont- which has remained for too long on the periphery of scholars’ attention. In 1836, the Vermont Catholic missionary priest Jeremiah O’Callaghan warned members of the New England Catholic Church that “our own Catholicks (are) every where scattered in the woods,” writing not only of the hostile outside Protestant world faced by Catholics in Vermont during the nineteenth century, but also of the difficulty of ministering to such a geographically removed or “scattered” rural population. Generating Genetic Resources For Phytophthora Capsici (L.) And Studying P. Capsici And Phytophthora Hybrids In Peru, Oscar Pietro Hurtado-Gonzales

The genus Phytophthora includes more than 90 described species infecting over 1000 plant species. Population studies were conducted to investigate the survival and spread of P. capsici in the Peruvian coastal region. A total of 227 P. capsici isolates, recovered at widely distant localities from 2005-2007, were fingerprinted with AFLPs and SNP genotyping. A clonal population (PcPE-1) represented by 221 isolates was found to be distributed throughout the country. Pius IX in the 1854 Bull Ineffabilis Deus defined the dogma of the Immaculate Conception as the belief that Mary; mother of Jesus, was from the moment of her conception free from the "stain of original sin." This idea was a part of ecclesiastical tradition, but prior to this time, the church had not officially defined Mary's sinless nature in writing. The publication of this definition, along with published accounts of Marian sightings, contributed to an already heightened awareness of her in a literate, culturally aware public. As a result, Protestant writers who sought to invoke her image interpreted a …
