A Multi-Exposure, High Resolution Camera For The Production Of A Resolving Power Test Target, With Extended Range, Richard Bergen Jan 1967

A Multi-Exposure, High Resolution Camera For The Production Of A Resolving Power Test Target, With Extended Range, Richard Bergen

Theses

Since 1888, a series of mutually perpendicular lines have been used as a test object for evaluation of optics, systems, products, etc. The availability of such test objects has traditionally been in the frequency range of about one cycle per millimeter to a couple hundred cycles per millimeter. These have been available from a few manufacturers, none of which offers the extended range of .25 cycles per millimeter to greater than one thousand cycles per millimeter proposed in this project. The usefulness of such an extended range serves to make it an all-purpose test target for measurement of enlarging, contact …

A Study Of The Low Current Density Electrolysis Of Ammonium Thiosulfate Fixers, John Bowman Jan 1967

A Study Of The Low Current Density Electrolysis Of Ammonium Thiosulfate Fixers, John Bowman

Theses

Determinations of the current tolerences of sodium thiosulfate and ammonium thiosulfate fixers are made and compared. The rate of fixation of ammonium thiosulfate fixer before and after electrolysis is studied. The current efficiency of low current density electrolysis in ammonium thiosulfate is found. Causes and forms of sulfiding are discussed and related to the work of the experimenter.

A Study Of The Effects Of The Concentration Of 2-Mercapto-4-Phenylthiazole On The Clearing Rate Of A Chlorobromide Emulsion And Evidence Of The Presence Of Activity Sites, Peter Lloyd Jan 1966

A Study Of The Effects Of The Concentration Of 2-Mercapto-4-Phenylthiazole On The Clearing Rate Of A Chlorobromide Emulsion And Evidence Of The Presence Of Activity Sites, Peter Lloyd

Theses

It has been hypothesized than materials which tightly adsorb on sliver halide lattices will attach themselves preferentially at certain points, usually referred to as activity sites, which have areas of only a few percent of I the total crystal surface. An experiment using the mechanism of Photosolubilization as revealed by R. K. Blake and others of the E. I. DuPont de nemours Research Laboratories measureing the clearing rate of a chlorobromide emulsion doped with 2-mercapto-4-phenylthiazole indicates that the fixing rate is substantially modified by very small concentrations of this compound, and that the rate remains essentially constant over quite a …

A Study Of The Effects On Sigma D And Resolved Lines As A Function Of Spatial Multi-Superposition Of Images, Jerome Katz, Roger Umbdenstock Jan 1965

A Study Of The Effects On Sigma D And Resolved Lines As A Function Of Spatial Multi-Superposition Of Images, Jerome Katz, Roger Umbdenstock

Theses

In photography the fidelity of the image is often degraded due to the random graininess associated with photographic emulsions. A study was performed to obtain objective and subjective data on the effects of granularity and graininess as a function of the number of spatially superpositioned images. A target was designed and built.* Individual negatives were made utilizing copy equipment with a vacuum back to ensure precise registration during exposure. These individual negatives were then imaged onto 16mm film utilizing standard motion picture equipment and a vacuum platen which was designed and built to ensure precise registration of individual negatives during …

Making A Streak Camera, Andrew Davidhazy Jan 1963

Making A Streak Camera, Andrew Davidhazy

Articles

This was my first "technical" article that was published in a professional journal and it came about mostly through the encouragement of Dr. Richard Zakia in the early 1960's for whom I prepared this work as a student project and who subsequently encouraged me to submit it to PMI magazine and William Hyzer for publication consideration.

A Preliminary Experiment In The Preparation And Evaluation Of Photographic Prints Of Unusual Tone Reproduction Characteristics, Robert Kane, Irving Magin Apr 1962

A Preliminary Experiment In The Preparation And Evaluation Of Photographic Prints Of Unusual Tone Reproduction Characteristics, Robert Kane, Irving Magin

Theses

Using three film types, Super Pan Press type-B, Kodak Commercial and Kodak Gravure (improved), and submitting these films to three levels of development and masking, a variety of tone reproduction curves were obtained. Selected prints, representing a variety of reproduction curves, were viewed by observers to determine preferred curve shapes.

A Method Of Analytical Dye Densitometry Utilizing Infrared Radiation, Calvin Besore May 1958

A Method Of Analytical Dye Densitometry Utilizing Infrared Radiation, Calvin Besore

Theses

A densitometric technique is described which yields analytical dye densities from a negative- positive color print film in a time less than would normally be required to process the film. In this technique, a correlation is established between the dye density produced by the complete process and the silver density produced by the initial development, the latter being determined by an application of infrared densitometry. Equipment utilized and procedure followed are described and some theoretical aspects and limitations reviewed.

A Shortened Type "C" Process (Characteristics Of A Combined Bleach-Fix), Donald Sykes Jan 1958

A Shortened Type "C" Process (Characteristics Of A Combined Bleach-Fix), Donald Sykes

Theses

The theory of combined bleach-fix bathes is discussed with an explanation of the function of sequestrene. Three investigations are described were the components of the solutions are varied, and the results stated. Formulas of successful bleach-fix baths used with a Kodak P122 Process are given.
