The Impact Of Disc In Construction Dialogue, Michelle W. Li
The Impact Of Disc In Construction Dialogue, Michelle W. Li
Construction Management
Personality tests look to categorize individuals based on their values, identity, psychological traits, and/or perspectives. The DISC (dominance, influential, steady, complaint) assessment is one of the major personality tests. Multiple industries like healthcare and sales have utilized DISC to foster better overall communication from work relations and positive success. Construction management (CM) is a similar industry with heavy emphasis on influence and focus. Utilizing DISC in the construction industry can achieve similar effects to the healthcare and sales industry. To analyze the potential effectiveness of DISC in the construction industry, a survey was distributed to one class of CM majors …

Effects Of Personality Retesting On Validity Coefficients As Moderated By Situational Strength, Daniel R. Abben
Effects Of Personality Retesting On Validity Coefficients As Moderated By Situational Strength, Daniel R. Abben
College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations
The use of valid selection tests enables organizations to better select employees who have the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics that are necessary for success. While cognitive ability tests are one of the best predictors of performance, they have well-known limitations. Specifically, they can result in adverse impact, and there is clear evidence of retest effects. The use of personality tests, when included in a selection battery, can ameliorate adverse impact and can provide incremental validity. Personality tests, however, also have limitations. Namely, they can be faked, the construct can be measured in various ways (i.e., there are myriad …
Assigning Collaborative Learning Pairs Based On Personality Testing, J. E. Humble, R. A. Pennwell-Cooper
Assigning Collaborative Learning Pairs Based On Personality Testing, J. E. Humble, R. A. Pennwell-Cooper
Georgia Journal of Science
This study, conducted at Buford Middle School, examined the effects of using personality tests to create student learning pairs. Four seventh grade classes were examined. The content, instruction, and instructor were the same for all classes. Three of four classes had students grouped in learning pairs based on the results of personality tests. The control group consisted of students grouped randomly into learning pairs. A teacher developed exam similar to the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) for Life Science was used as the pretest and the CRCT was used as the posttest. No significant differences were found; however, specific …
Take It But Don't Fake It: Using Self-Awareness To Reduce Fabrications On Personality Tests, Rebekah Lynn Hale
Take It But Don't Fake It: Using Self-Awareness To Reduce Fabrications On Personality Tests, Rebekah Lynn Hale
Undergraduate Honors Thesis Collection
Applicants have been shown to fake responses on personality tests when applying for a job to appear as if they have characteristics most similar to ones that management defines as ideal for the given position. The purpose of this study was to propose and test a method to decrease faking on personality tests. Participants took a cognitive ability test, an emotional intelligence measure, and personality scales online. In the second part of the study, participants read an accountant job description and then either played a hand-held game (control condition) or filled out a biographical questionnaire (treatment condition) designed to increase …

Do Personality Tests Have A Place In Academic Preparation Of Undergradute Hospitality Students, Gunce Malan
Do Personality Tests Have A Place In Academic Preparation Of Undergradute Hospitality Students, Gunce Malan
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This is a descriptive study that poses the questions and discussion regarding use of personality tests in prediction of future job performance of the current undergraduate hospitality students. A gap exists between the perception of the skills and competencies of high performers and the perception of hospitality students (Berezina et al., 2011; Malan, Berezina & Cobanoglu, 2012). The purpose of this study is to investigate if personality tests will help in predicting the success of students in their preferred job setting as compared to current high performers (managers).
The use of personality tests increased substantially after 1988, when the government …
Personality Measurement And Testing: An Overview, Gregory J. Boyle, Gerald Matthews, Donald H. Saklofske
Personality Measurement And Testing: An Overview, Gregory J. Boyle, Gerald Matthews, Donald H. Saklofske
Gregory J. Boyle
Extract:
Technically, there are very few actual 'tests' of personality- the Objective-Analytical Battery being an exception. Most so-called 'tests' of personality are in fact, self-report scales or rating scales based on reports of others. Such scales quantify subjective introspections, or subjective impressions of others' personality make-up. At the same time, it is a relevant question and one that we will continue to face in the study of personality and the application of the findings, including assessment of personality, within psychological practice areas such as clinical and school psychology, and within settings such as the military, business and sports psychology, among …
How Similar Are Personality Scales Of The “Same” Construct? A Meta-Analytic Investigation, Victoria L. Pace
How Similar Are Personality Scales Of The “Same” Construct? A Meta-Analytic Investigation, Victoria L. Pace
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In recent years, meta-analytic reviews have estimated validities for the use of personality scales in the prediction of job performance from an array of empirical studies. A variety of personality measures were used in the original studies, and procedures and decisions concerning the categorization of these measures into Big Five personality factors have differed among reviewers. An underlying assumption of meta-analysis is that the predictors across included studies are essentially the same, as is the criterion. If this is not the case, then problems arise for both theoretical reasons and practical applications. If predictors that are not highly correlated are …
Research Proposal: The Effectiveness Of Personality Tests In Predicting An Individual‘S Job Performance, Cecelia L. Mcpheron
Research Proposal: The Effectiveness Of Personality Tests In Predicting An Individual‘S Job Performance, Cecelia L. Mcpheron
Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal
This study is designed for the purpose of determining whether personality tests are effective in predicting an individual‘s job performance. I chose to research this topic because of my interest in industrial psychology. In addition, there are a number of businesses that require potential employers to complete a personality test.
Bates (2002), addresses the fact that personality assessments can be extremely useful in hiring the right person for a particular job. Employment tests seem to be on the rise and roughly 40 percent of employers use them. In addition, human resource professionals should expect to pay a significant amount of …

A Repertory Grid Assessment Of Traitedness And Its Relation To The Validity Of The Neo Pi-R Conscientiousness Scale, Susan Nancy Heidal-Schiltz
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
Since Allport (1937) first introduced the idea that traits may vary in their relevance for particular individuals, several investigators have explored ways to operationalize the construct of traitedness in order to improve the criterion-related validity of a trait-based approach to personality assessment. Specifically, these investigators have examined the utility of traitedness indicators as moderators of trait-criterion correlations, seeking to separate those individuals who are predictable on a given trait dimension from those who are not. This study attempted to determine whether the criterion-related validity of the Conscientiousness scale from the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R; Costa & McCrae, 1992) …

The Relationship Between Selected Personality Variables And Compulsive Gamblers In Treatment, Kevin E. Kip
The Relationship Between Selected Personality Variables And Compulsive Gamblers In Treatment, Kevin E. Kip
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The empirical contributions of researchers on the personality characteristics associated with the identification and treatment of compulsive gambling have been largely piecemeal. As an active four year veteran of the Gamblers Anonymous program, the author has come to recognize that the vast majority of members comprising Gamblers Anonymous are persons typically not well versed in experimental design or research methodology techniques. Compounding this statement is the fact that it was not until the early 1980's that compulsive gambling (or synonomously stated as pathological gambling) became recognized by the American Psychiatric Association as a mental disorder with explicit diagnostic signs and …

The Sibling Experience: A Comparative Study Of Relationship And Birth Order Factors In Predicting Personality Characteristics, Elizabeth Bergmann-Harms
The Sibling Experience: A Comparative Study Of Relationship And Birth Order Factors In Predicting Personality Characteristics, Elizabeth Bergmann-Harms
Theses and Dissertations
The two purposes of this research were: (1) to develop an instrument, the Sibling Relationship Questionnaire (SRQ) to measure retrospectively childhood feelings towards siblings and (2) to assess the power of the SRQ in statistical prediction of personality characteristics, as measured by the California Psychological Inventory (CPI). The predictive power of the SRQ was compared by multivariate analyses to that of birth order variables. The principal personality features investigated were need for achievement, need for affiliation, conformity, sociability, and sex-role orientation.
In Study 1 a pool of items regarding childhood sibling relationships was submitted to a sample of 255 undergraduate …
Personality Variables That Discriminate Pseudoseizures Patients And Epileptic Patients Used In The 16 Pf, Patricia Lane Marshall
Personality Variables That Discriminate Pseudoseizures Patients And Epileptic Patients Used In The 16 Pf, Patricia Lane Marshall
Master's Theses
This project was designed to study the effect of certain personality factors on pseudoseizure patients. It was hypothesized that Factors C and O in the 16 Personality Questionnaire could serve as predictor variables for the criterion variable, positive diagnosis of pseudoseizure versus true epileptic seizures. It was also hypothesized that these two groups, pseudoseizure versus epileptic seizure, would differ significantly on a test titled the Sickness Impact Profile. The two scales in this test, psychosocial and physical, were examined. Two discriminant analyses were performed with these two tests being the predictor variables and group membership being the criterion variable. Non-significant …

A Comparison Of Mmpi Scores Of Graduating High School Seniors And Their Parents, Nanette Martin
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of the study was to compare the MMPI scores of graduating high school seniors and their parents. The Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory was administered to one hundred and twenty subjects (forty students and eighty parents). The students were enrolled in five public schools and three private schools in Southwest Missouri, Central Missouri and Northeast Oklahoma. The volunteer subjects were selected using random sampling procedures. The data were collected during March and April, 1983.
The MMPI protocols were hand-scored for three Validity Scales (L, F, K), ten Clinical Scales (Hs, D, Hy, Pd, Mf, Pa, Pt, Sc, Ma, Si) …

Validation Of Eisegesis Concepts In Assessment Reports Using The 16 Pf: A Training Method With Examples, Richard H. Dana, Brian Bolton, Vickie West
Regional Research Institute for Human Services
A training method for psychological report writing uses reliably abstracted concepts from reports prepared by students and experts for the same data sets. Consensual and unique concepts are compared for student and expert reports and evaluated by assessees. Unique concepts are further subdivided into skills (assessee accepted) and eisegesis (assessee rejected). Karson 16PF Reports from assessors were similarly broken down into consensual and unique concepts. Comparisons were made between 16 PF and Rorschach eisegesis that suggest student personality effects upon reports. A procedure for providing feedback to students is presented.

Extended Report Of Rorschach Personality And Barnum Statements, Richard H. Dana, Patricia A. Thomas
Regional Research Institute for Human Services
Frequent and Infrequent concepts were identified in psychological reports. These concepts were presented with established Barnum statements to 70 college students for estimation of the percentages of persons described by each concept. Significant differences between the three concept categories were obtained although rates of endorsement for all concepts were high.

The Development And Validation Of A Sentence-Completion Method: A Semi-Structured Projective Technique Designed For Personality Study, Esdon N. Bacchus
Dissertations
Problem. There are very few objective instruments available for use in the psychological diagnosis of emotional impairment at the elementary-school level. The determination of emotional impairment has often been based on clinical judgment and subjectivity. In addition, psychological instruments have been attacked from the standpoint of reliability and validity. Major concerns relate to the seriousness of misclassification and the limited success-rate of rehabilitation efforts. The sentence-completion method is popularly used by clinicians. However, the available incomplete-sentence blanks used at the elementary-school level rely almost entirely on face validity. Public Legislation 94-142 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 specifically require that …

Clinical Application Of The Midi-Mult, Barbara Hendricks
Clinical Application Of The Midi-Mult, Barbara Hendricks
Dissertations and Theses
The MMPI is used as a diagnostic tool in clinical settings. However, its length is a detriment. Various attempts have been made to develop shortened versions of the standard MMPI. One of the widely used short forms is Kincannon's Mini-Mult, but its validity scales are less accurate than the full MMPI.
Dean's Midi-Mult is a more recent short form of the MMPI designed to approximate more closely the scores on the validity scales and clinical scales of the standard MMPI.
