These cyber-attacks are known as website defacements and can cause costly losses and damage the reputation of their internet victims. Who Is At The Manger?, Kayla Harris, Neomi Deanda

Marian Library Faculty Publications

For many Christians around the world, celebrating the Nativity, or the birth of Jesus Christ, is the most important part of the Christmas season.

Among the most common Christmas traditions are small sets of figures depicting Joseph, Mary and Jesus that are displayed in individual homes, and live reenactments of the manger scene in communities and churches. While Nativity sets focus on the holy family, they can also include an angel, the three wise men bringing gifts, shepherds or some barnyard animals.

Around the world, it is common to see particular cultural and religious traditions incorporated through the materials used, …

An Analysis Of The Micro-Determinants Of Domestic Holiday Expenditure By Households In The Republic Of Ireland, Lisa Noonan

Irish Business Journal

The dramatic decrease in overseas visitors to Ireland in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated the risks, for the tourism sector, associated with being over-reliant on international tourism. Growing the domestic tourism market is now critical for sustaining jobs and businesses within the sector. The purpose of this paper is to examine the micro-determinants of expenditure on domestic holidays by households in the Republic of Ireland.

Using data from the Irish Household Budget Survey 2015-2016, instrumental variable estimators are used to conduct the analysis. The results reveal that disposable income, being located in the Border, Midlands and Western …

Every Good And Perfect Gift: How Jonathan Edwards Uses The Motif Of The Gift To Communicate The Gospel, Lauren Bridgeman Dec 2021

Every Good And Perfect Gift: How Jonathan Edwards Uses The Motif Of The Gift To Communicate The Gospel, Lauren Bridgeman

English Class Publications

When a person brings a gift to a party or holiday gathering, they often do so out of fear of people viewing them as impolite if they forget. This societal norm creates the impression that the receivers deserve the gift. However, objects of value that are deserved are called wages, not gifts; gifts are products that are undeserved and unearned. Though the motif of a gift is uncommon in literature and is not as common as motifs of nature or childhood, it is important to understand the components of a Gift. Involved in an exchange are a Giver and a …

Identity Selection And The Social Construction Of Birthdays, Brett W. Pelham, Tracy Dehart, Mitsuru Shimizu, Curtis D. Hardin, H. Anna Han, William Von Hippel

Publications and Research

We argue that rather than being a wholly random event, birthdays are sometimes selected by parents. We further argue that such effects have changed over time and are the result of important psychological processes. Long ago, U.S. American parents greatly overclaimed holidays as their children’s birthdays. These effects were larger for more important holidays, and they grew smaller as births moved to hospitals and became officially documented. These effects were exaggerated for ethnic groups that deeply valued specific holidays. Parents also overclaimed well-liked calendar days and avoided disliked calendar days as their children’s birthdays. However, after birthday selection effects virtually …

Time-Share Contract, A Comparative Study, Nada Salim Malla Alow

UAEU Law Journal

The Time-Share is one of the important contracts that appear in the tourism field. The contract idea is based on the participation of a large number of people who benefit from the tourist resorts and hotels for spending holidays and vacations. The beneficiary may contract with the owner of the tourist establishment to buy a share in a hotel or touristic unit or to get benefit from it. In both cases, he/she has the right of residence in this real estate unit for a limited time yearly; one week minimum and one month as maximum instead of buying a whole …

BACKGROUND: It is not established whether the risk of anaphylaxis induced by peanuts or tree nuts in children increases at specific times of the year. We aimed to evaluate the risk of peanut-and tree-nut-induced anaphylaxis during certain cultural holidays in Canadian children.

METHODS: We collected data on confirmed pediatric cases of anaphylaxis presenting to emergency departments in 4 Canadian provinces as part of the Cross-Canada Anaphylaxis Registry. We assessed the mean number of cases per day and incidence rate ratio (IRR) of anaphylaxis induced by unknown nuts, peanuts and tree nuts presenting during each of 6 holidays (Halloween, Christmas, Easter, …

I Think Of Your Mother, Natalie Elizabeth Conn May 2020

I Think Of Your Mother, Natalie Elizabeth Conn

Theses and Dissertations

I Think of Your Mother is a short observational film that documents Valentine’s Day weekend at a 131-year old, family-owned-and-operated flower shop in East Elmhurst, Queens. The once thriving business of providing flowers for funerals at the nearby St. Michael’s Cemetery has diminished, but seven days a week the 92-year old owner, Gladys, still answers the phone and takes orders while her family tries to accommodate her way of doing things. As they struggle to keep the store relevant, the film captures a family business that has persevered, if not necessarily triumphed, over the profound changes taking place in the …
