The Lateral Root Density Gene Regulates Root Growth During Water Stress In Wheat, Dante F. Placido, Jaspreet Sandhu, Shirley Sato, Natalya Nersesian, Truyen Quach, Thomas Clemente, Paul Staswick, Harkamal Walia
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
Drought stress is the major limiting factor in agriculture. Wheat, which is the most widely grown crop in the world, is predominantly cultivated in drought-prone rainfed environments. Since roots play a critical role in water uptake, root response to water limitations is an important component for enhancing wheat adaptation. In an effort to discover novel genetic sources for improving wheat adaptation, we characterized a wheat translocation line with a chromosomal segment from Agropyron elongatum, a wild relative of wheat, which unlike common wheat maintains root growth under limited-water conditions. By exploring the root transcriptome data, we found that reduced …

Genetic Algorithms Used For Search And Rescue Of Vulnerable People In An Urban Setting, Shuhad Aljandeel
Genetic Algorithms Used For Search And Rescue Of Vulnerable People In An Urban Setting, Shuhad Aljandeel
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
The main goal of this research is to design and develop a genetic algorithm (GA) for path planning of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) outfitted with a camera to efficiently search for a lost person in an area of interest. The research focuses on scenarios where the lost person is from a vulnerable population, such as someone suffering from Alzheimer or a small child who has wondered off. To solve this problem, a GA for path planning was designed and implemented in Matlab. The area of interest is considered to be a circle that encompasses the distance the person could …
Quality Control Method Based On Quantum Genetic Clustering Algorithm, Wang Jie, Wang Yan
Quality Control Method Based On Quantum Genetic Clustering Algorithm, Wang Jie, Wang Yan
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: This paper proposes a method of quality control chart recognition based on Quantum Genetic Clustering Algorithm. This method is divided into two parts: quality feature extraction and pattern classification. By combining Quantum Genetic Algorithm(QGA) and K-means algorithm, a quantum genetic clustering algorithm based on a mechanism for determining the rotation direction of a quantum rotary gate is proposed, and its performance is verified by experimental simulation. Based on the clustering analysis of quality data using the quantum genetic algorithm proposed in this paper, a control chart feature description method is proposed. With this feature as input, Support Vector …

Diary, 1929-1932 (Brown, Small), Fay Webb Gardner
Diaries
Series 1.6.1 - Fay Webb Gardner Personal Papers: Diaries & Travel Logs
This diary details the daily life of Fay Webb Gardner in the year 1932 while living at the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh, NC. Some of the diary focuses on the political atmosphere as it is O. Max Gardner's last year as Governor of North Carolina. Fay talks of the gubernatorial race where they support John Ehringhaus (who becomes elected governor) as well as the national election where they support Franklin D. Roosevelt (who is elected president in November). Fay kept up with current events and mentions various important …
