A Look Back In Time: Analyzing The Success And Value Of The 2014 Amendments To Rule 2a-7 And Reporting On Form N-Cr In Light Of The March 2020 Market Events, Jocelyn Near Apr 2024

A Look Back In Time: Analyzing The Success And Value Of The 2014 Amendments To Rule 2a-7 And Reporting On Form N-Cr In Light Of The March 2020 Market Events, Jocelyn Near

Catholic University Law Review

Money market funds have frequently been a target of regulation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”). Perhaps the most expansive regulation came as a response to the 2008 financial crisis, in which the Reserve Primary Fund “broke the buck.” The SEC’s misguided 2014 reforms exacerbated the inherent risks of money market funds, including the risk of runs and first mover advantage, particularly with the implementation of Form N-CR. Form N-CR requires a money market fund to publicly report when various events occur, including when a retail or government money market fund’s current net asset value per share deviates downward …

An Historical And Empirical Analysis Of The Cyprès Doctrine, Christopher J. Ryan Jun 2023

An Historical And Empirical Analysis Of The Cyprès Doctrine, Christopher J. Ryan

ACTEC Law Journal

Cy près is a pivotal doctrine in estate law and indeed American jurisprudence. It places courts in the shoes of settlors of charitable trusts to discern not only their original intent but also affords the possibility of continuing the material purpose for which settlors created enduring legacies of philanthropy benefitting society. For this reason, it may well be that no other legal doctrine is as closely tied to the interests of the individual and the collective as cy près. And my first-of-its kind study puts the cy-près doctrine front and center, while providing three major contributions to the field. First, …

Two Essays On Antecedents And Effects Of Board Female Representation Non-Conformity, Fatemeh Askarzadeh Jul 2021

Two Essays On Antecedents And Effects Of Board Female Representation Non-Conformity, Fatemeh Askarzadeh

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

Despite mounting societal demands for board gender diversity, some firms deviate below traditional norms, i.e., under-conform to expectations, while others adhere to them. To explain this variation within a national context, we build on insights from the emerging corporate governance deviance theory and gender role congruity theory. Using panel data on a globally-representative set of firms, Essay 1 shows that firms with higher entrepreneurial orientation are more likely to go below the national norms for board gender diversity. Our results also reveal that having more slack resources weakens the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and under-conformity. This study contributes to the …

Analysis Of Lateral Force And Deviation Of Permanent Magnetic Levitation Belt Conveyor, Kun Hu, Wang Shuang, Yongcun Guo, Deyong Li Jul 2020

Analysis Of Lateral Force And Deviation Of Permanent Magnetic Levitation Belt Conveyor, Kun Hu, Wang Shuang, Yongcun Guo, Deyong Li

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: On the basis of reasonable assumptions, lateral force mathematical model of permanent magnetic levitation belt conveyor maglev support system was simulated. The simulation results showed that conveyor lateral force and offset could have a monotonically increasing relationship. If the belt shifted, it would cause an increase in lateral force, which could cause conveyor belt further deviation. The traditional physical anti-deviation measures couldn’t apply to non-contact suspension support. In order to effectively solve the permanent magnetic levitation belt conveyor deviation problem, an automatic offset device was designed and the corresponding control strategy was proposed. The value of the lateral …

A Study On Phase Angle Deviation During Thermomechanical Fatigue Of Hastelloy X, Adam Smith Apr 2020

A Study On Phase Angle Deviation During Thermomechanical Fatigue Of Hastelloy X, Adam Smith

Student Research Symposium

Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue (TMF) is the combination of cyclic heating and loading and is characterized by the relative offset between peak temperature and load. This offset, referred to as phase angle, has been predominantly studied at two extremes, In-Phase (IP) and Out-of-Phase (OP). TMF failure is caused by a combination of creep, oxidation, and fatigue, where IP failure is dominated by creep and OP failure is dominated by oxidation. The life of material undergoing TMF can vary drastically depending on phase angle and the prevalent damage mechanism. The goal of this research is to determine whether TMF life can be extended …

Edo In The Manga World: Appare Jipangu! And Early Modern Japanese Literature, Parker Christian Cassidy Jan 2019

Edo In The Manga World: Appare Jipangu! And Early Modern Japanese Literature, Parker Christian Cassidy

Senior Projects Spring 2019

This project offers a complete translation of the first volume of the Japanese manga Appare Jipangu! by Yuu Watase. An essay that examines the relationship between the manga's own content and the literature of the Edo period, and an exploration the author’s intentions behind having her story set in that particular time follows the translation. With the historical content in the manga and the general format of manga, the translation of Watase’s work created more intense challenges in naturalizing the original Japanese, some requiring new methods of translation to be utilized. Watase calls her manga an “Edo-style” comedy, and many …

Patterns Of Regularity Noncompliance Identified By The U.S. Food And Drug Administration And Their Effects On Meta-Analyses, Craig A. Garmendia

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The objective of this study was to determine the patterns of regulatory noncompliance, as identified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and their effects on meta-analyses. In order to achieve these objective, three studies were undertaken: analysis of citations issued by FDA Investigators at the conclusion of an inspection; analysis of regulatory actions taken by the FDA towards clinical researchers based on the observations cited by FDA Investigators; and sensitivity analysis of meta-analyses based on the Agency’s determination of research misconduct, primarily the falsification of data. FDA Investigator citations were analyzed using Chi-Square analysis based on geographic location …

2008 Financial Crisis And The Deviation From The Taylor Rule, Uzoma H. Okoye Apr 2018

2008 Financial Crisis And The Deviation From The Taylor Rule, Uzoma H. Okoye

Honors College Theses

In this paper, we derive possible causes of the 2008 financial crisis, as well as provide evidence of a possible deviation from the Taylor rule by the Federal Reserve. This research draws up mostly primary sources such as published books and speeches by John B. Taylor himself, as well as articles from academic journals related to the topic. Other prior research tends to take a side on the argument as to whether the Federal Reserve deviated or not. This paper serves as a descriptive analysis of different sides of the argument to come up with suggestions regarding the Fed’s actions.

Modeling And Control Of A 6-Control-Area Interconnected Power System To Protect The Network Frequency Applying Different Controllers, Ngockhoat Nguyen, Qi Huang, Thi-Mai-Phuong Dao

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, we first analyze and build a model of the 6-control-area interconnected power system as the typical case study. Subsequently, different frequency controllers based on tie-line bias control strategy, namely integral, proportional--integral, proportional--integral--derivative, and PI-based fuzzy logic, will be investigated and applied to the power system model. The most important control performances, such as overshoots and settling times, are considered in this study to evaluate the stability of the power system and choose the most suitable controller for maintaining the network frequency. The simulation results have been achieved by using MATLAB/Simulink package version 2013 in this work. According …

Tolerance Equivalency Between Δe*Ab And Δe00 Metrics, Lufei Yu May 2015

Tolerance Equivalency Between Δe*Ab And Δe00 Metrics, Lufei Yu

Theses

In order to be competitive and to meet global brand’s printing requirements, conventional printing is increasingly moving toward standardization. The principal international standard for offset printing is defined ISO 12647-2. The latest revision of ISO 12647-2 (2013) includes ∆E00 as the tolerance metric for deviation assessment, as the traditionally utilized ∆E*ab lacks visual uniformity. However, the tolerance value for ∆E00 from ISO 12647-2 (2013) is informative only. In addition, there is no justification given for how the published ∆E00 values were derived.

This research devised a method that uses the %Pass approach in a database to determine the equivalent tolerances …

An Investigation Of Factors Influencing Color Tolerances, Robert Chung, Lufei Yu, Bruce Myers Jan 2015

An Investigation Of Factors Influencing Color Tolerances, Robert Chung, Lufei Yu, Bruce Myers

Presentations and other scholarship

Tolerance is the permissible difference between sample measurement and the aim and is used to determine the acceptability of a product. A well-known example is the color tolerance of printed solids in ISO 12647-2. The first edition of ISO 12647-2 was published in 1996. It has gone through two major revisions. In the 2004 revision, the magnitude of the color tolerance (∆E*ab) was changed. In the 2013 revision, a new color tolerance metric (∆E00) was included. No justification was found regarding the ISO 12647-2 revisions. In this research, %Pass is used to study the effect of color tolerance in a …

Systemic Incongruity: Bringing Down The Risks Of Conformity And Deviation Biases, Shefali V. Patil Jan 2014

Systemic Incongruity: Bringing Down The Risks Of Conformity And Deviation Biases, Shefali V. Patil

Publicly Accessible Penn Dissertations

Employees often have to decide whether to conform to or deviate from the status quo. Exhibiting consistent preferences for either preserving or maintaining the status quo (i.e., conformity biases) or for challenging or rejecting the status quo (i.e., deviation biases) can be costly. Conformity biases prevent employees from adapting to changing task demands and deviation biases hamper the predictability and reliability of decisions. It is therefore important for scholars and practitioners to understand how to engineer work environments that, to the degree possible, enable employees to bring down both types of risks. However, our understanding of this issue is limited …

Issues Of Delay & Deviation In Marine Insurance: A Case Study Of Oliver V. The Maryland Insurance Company, 7 Cranach 487 (1813), Kyle Hildreth

Legal History Publications

An examination of the case Oliver v. The Maryland Insurance Company, 7 Cranch 487 (1813). In Oliver, Robert Oliver, the plaintiff, sued the Maryland Insurance Company, the defendant, in an attempt to recover on an insurance policy he had purchased for a shipment of goods aboard the snow Comet. The Comet was seized by a British ship on its return from Spain, and was condemned under the Orders in Council of 1807. The Court affirmed a lower court judgment that Oliver was not entitled to recover, because the Comet had engaged in an unreasonable delay and deviation …

On The Weighting Of The Mean-Absolute-Deviation Cost Minimization Model, S Wang, Q Meng, Z Liu Jan 2013

On The Weighting Of The Mean-Absolute-Deviation Cost Minimization Model, S Wang, Q Meng, Z Liu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The mean-absolute-deviation cost minimization model, which aims to minimize sum of the mean value and the absolute deviation (AD) of the total cost multiplied by a given non-negative weighting, is one of a number of typical robust optimization models. This paper first uses a straightforward example to show that the solution obtained by this model with some weightings is not actually an optimal decision. This example also illustrates that the mean-absolute-deviation cost minimization model cannot be regarded as the conventional weighted transformation of the relevant multiobjective minimization model aiming to simultaneously minimize the mean value and AD. This paper further …

Minimising Voltage Deviation In Distribution Feeders By Optimising Size And Location Of Distributed Generation, An D. T Le, Kashem M. Muttaqi, Michael Negnevitsky, Gerard Ledwich

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A new emerging trend of distribution networks is to use small generating units, known as distributed generation (DG), operating in parallel with the main grid. This kind of distribution networks has enabled DG to support power systems in fulfilling their requirements to increase power output as well as quality of power supply. DG has potential to alter power flows, system voltages, and the system performance. In order to maximise benefits from the DG system, proper DG planning is necessary. Determining an optimal DG size and its DG location are critical issues that are addressed in this paper. The main purpose …

Trop De Soleil Tue L'Amour : Une Expression De L'Écriture Du Mal-Être De Mongo Beti, Rodolphine Sylvie Wamba Dec 2004

Trop De Soleil Tue L'Amour : Une Expression De L'Écriture Du Mal-Être De Mongo Beti, Rodolphine Sylvie Wamba

Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

The classical and dissident African writer Mongo Beti perpetually uses the theme of man’s quest for freedom in everything he does. In fact, the philosophy of “Rubénism” is found in each of his works. Given that man must survive in the “ocean of shit” he lives in, the writer, using a popular language, freely chooses to add some humour to everyday life. Thus, the text we studied appeared as a genuine thriller, complete with comedy and tragedy, which presents a deviation from more formal writing. This is the main idea of this analysis, which consists of showing Trop de soleil …

Racial And Religious Discrimination In Charitable Trusts: A Current Analysis Of Constitutional And Trust Law Solutions, Roy M. Adams Jan 1976

Racial And Religious Discrimination In Charitable Trusts: A Current Analysis Of Constitutional And Trust Law Solutions, Roy M. Adams

Cleveland State Law Review

It is the purpose of this article to chronicle and analyze the process by which constitutional and trust law have blended together in the charitable trust field. The questions to be posed and answered are essentially these: Can a settlor expect racial and religious restrictions in a charitable trust to be allowed to operate? If such restrictions may operate, under what conditions and circumstances? If not, why not, and what will happen to the trust property thereafter?
